The Verdict
Raffles Singapore remains the gold standard for luxury hospitality in Southeast Asia, and the 2019 renovation has only elevated its legendary status. The colonial architecture creates an oasis of calm in the city center, while butler service reaches levels of intuitive excellence that few hotels worldwide can match. Recent guests consistently praise the spacious Palm Court suites and the genuine warmth of staff who remember your name after a single interaction. While the hotel commands premium rates and occasional service hiccups still occur, this is hospitality as high art — a place where Somerset Maugham's ghost would feel perfectly at home with a Singapore Sling in hand.

What People Say
I would absolutely go with Raffles for a proposal — it's the most romantic luxury option in Singapore.
Among Four Seasons, Capella, and Fullerton Bay, Raffles is still the clear choice for romance and ultra-luxury. The heritage and atmosphere create something special that the newer properties just can't match. If you're willing to fly somewhere, I'd consider the Aman properties, but for Singapore itself, Raffles is unbeatable for a proposal setting.
We stayed in a Courtyard Suite for three nights and it was unbelievably good and almost unique in Singapore.
Coming from stays at other luxury properties, I can say Raffles Singapore delivered something special. The suite was exceptional with that perfect blend of colonial charm and modern luxury that's so hard to get right. The service felt effortless and the location puts you right in the heart of everything while maintaining that sense of sanctuary. It's expensive but worth every penny for what you get.
We stayed in a Palm Court suite during our engagement trip and I can honestly say this is what luxury hospitality should feel like.
The 2019 renovation struck the perfect balance between preserving the colonial heritage and adding modern touches. Our suite was enormous with soaring ceilings and period furnishings that felt authentic, not staged. The butler service was exceptional — they anticipated our needs before we even knew we had them. The heritage tour was absolutely fascinating and really helped us appreciate what makes this place so special in Singapore's history.
I was approached by staff four separate times and told I should leave guest areas — it was deeply uncomfortable during our honeymoon.
We stayed right after the renovation in a Palm Court suite and while the hard product was incredible, the service left much to be desired. Multiple times I was questioned about whether I belonged there, despite being a guest. The food was excellent and the rooms were beautifully appointed, but being made to feel unwelcome at a luxury hotel was really disappointing. I don't think we'll return.
We had a wonderful January stay — the perfect mix of historic charm with fully modern amenities integrated seamlessly.
The recent renovation really delivered on preserving the heritage while updating everything that needed updating. The bathroom was massive, about the same size as the bedroom, with an incredible soaking tub. Breakfast was outstanding — the mee goreng was a standout dish that rivaled some of our restaurant meals. The service struck the right balance of being available when needed but respecting our privacy. Don't miss the history tour early in your stay.
The heritage tour with Mr. Roslee was absolutely mesmerizing — he brought decades of hotel history vividly to life.
We were immersed in beautifully preserved colonial architecture from the moment we arrived. The personal butler service was exceptional with genuine warmth and care that made us feel like honored friends. Mr. Roslee, the hotel historian and former butler to Michael Jackson and Queen Elizabeth II, gave us a private tour sharing incredible stories from his decades of service. His passion and deep knowledge made the hotel's rich legacy come alive.
Our butler Cathy was absolutely fantastic — she anticipated our dietary restrictions and made our stay feel incredibly special.
We had a wonderful staycation and the service was seamless from check-in to check-out. Our suite was perfect in every detail, from the furnishings to the smallest touches. Cathy went above and beyond, providing in-room Singapore Slings and even running relaxing baths. The attention to detail and genuine care made this stay feel truly memorable. The staff genuinely cannot do enough for you.
Our stay was deeply disappointing given the hotel's reputation — check-in delays and room mix-ups ruined our first days in Singapore.
We arrived at 3pm after an exhausting journey but our room wasn't ready until 5:30pm with no meaningful updates. Then we discovered the wrong room configuration had been booked, causing another hour delay. By the time we got to our correct room, we collapsed and slept through dinner, effectively losing our first evening in Singapore. The hotel manager apologized and promised to make it up to us, but we never heard from them again.
