Service
18.5

Guests name individual staff constantly, from butler manager Gaurav to housekeeping's Karan, though one report described being ignored at check-in and in the restaurant.

Rooms & Design
18

Set on its own island on Udai Sagar with a dhow-boat arrival, and the 101 island rooms are the ones repeatedly singled out.

Location
17.5

The private-island setting away from the city is the draw, though that same distance means you're not stepping out to Udaipur's sights.

Dining
16.5

Chef Ranchhod's Sawai gets called out for specific dishes like papad paneer sabji, though one guest found the food merely average against the property's own standard.

Wellness
16.5

The gym trainer Mohit and the spa both draw specific, detailed praise rather than generic thanks.

The Verdict

Book Raffles Udaipur for the island itself, not just the Raffles name on the door. It sits on its own patch of Udai Sagar, reached by a short dhow boat crossing, and almost every recent guest writes about the same thing before anything else: staff who remember a kid's food allergy, an anniversary, a father's retirement, and act on it. Named staff show up constantly and specifically — Gaurav upgrading a couple to a private pool room after learning it was a celebration, a housekeeping manager named Satya walking a lost family 40 minutes back to the property on his own time, off shift. That's the kind of detail a script doesn't produce.

The building earns its own case: colonial-trader-estate architecture, lake views from most rooms, and enough going on (archery, pottery, birdwatching, a nightly Rajasthani show) that several guests say they never left the island and didn't miss the old city. Chef Ranchhod's Rajasthani menu at Sawai gets called out by name more than once, dishes and all. The trade-off is the buffet, which more than one guest flags as repetitive across a multi-night stay, and one detailed account from July 2026 describes a front-desk and restaurant team that walked past guests without acknowledging them and left a tea service without napkins — a real miss, and worth knowing about, though it sits against a much larger stack of specific, glowing service reports naming staff by name, week after week.

This isn't a hotel for people who want to walk out the door into old Udaipur; it's for people who want the island to be the whole trip. Families and honeymooners get the most out of it, based on what's written here. Book it for the staff and the setting, and let the boat ride be part of the arrival.

Strengths

Named staff repeatedly praised for personal, unscripted gestures like surprise upgrades and anniversary touches
Private island setting reached by dhow boat gives the stay a self-contained, away-from-it-all feel
Chef Ranchhod's Rajasthani tasting menu at Sawai draws specific, repeated praise
Extensive on-site activities (archery, pottery, birdwatching, evening cultural show) keep families occupied without leaving the property
Spa and gym staff (Mohit, Abhay) singled out for personalized attention

Considerations

Buffet and daily dining rotation criticized as repetitive by longer-staying guests
One detailed account describes a front-desk and restaurant service breakdown, including being ignored and missing basic table setup

What People Say

Planning a Rajasthan trip and Raffles Udaipur is the one that's caught my eye so far.

Jul 2026

I usually route through Dubai or Thailand on the way to India, sometimes tacking on the Maldives since it's such an easy add-on flight. This time I'm planning a proper Rajasthan trip and Raffles Udaipur looks like the standout. Still weighing it against the Fairmont Jaipur and Six Senses Fort Barwara for the rest of the itinerary.

The food was perfect, and the patisserie staff handled my toddler with more patience than I expected.

Abhishek KumarJul 2026

We had an awesome stay overall, and food was a real highlight throughout. Dinki and Arika at the patisserie deserve a shout out especially, since my 4-year-old was a handful and they never lost their composure. They stayed on their toes the entire time we were there.

Great spot for a relaxing stay, and the operations head Rajesh was always available when we needed him.

ExplorerJul 2026

The location works well whether you're there to unwind or attending an event on property. Rajesh, the operations head, was a genuinely fine presence, always ready to help with anything we needed. Mehak and Priyanka also took good care of our group specifically.

The whole stay was wonderful, and the surroundings felt peaceful the entire time. Food was good with plenty of variety, and every part of the property was clearly well maintained. It was exactly the right place to unwind with family, and we'd go back without hesitation.

The location and calm atmosphere were perfect, though honestly the food didn't quite match the rest of the property.

Himani sharmaJun 2026

It was a genuinely peaceful stay, the property is well maintained and everything about the setting feels calm. Shubham Singh at the front desk was especially helpful and professional whenever we needed anything. The food was just average though, which felt a little out of step with how good everything else was.

Abhay and Vishal at the gym ran complimentary PT and yoga sessions, and the sauna was always properly hot.

Paul RomeroJun 2026

The resort's facilities and staff were consistently good throughout our stay. The gym team was particularly attentive, offering free personal training and yoga sessions without us even asking. They also kept the steam room and sauna well maintained, worth a visit on its own.

Complimentary PT and yoga sessions
Well-maintained sauna and steam room
Red flag

Honestly, the welcome was a letdown: staff walked right past us without a word.

Saurabh ThakarJul 2026

Nobody greeted us at arrival or offered any help, and the restaurant team ignored us even after we asked for assistance. At the high tea restaurant our table didn't even have napkins, which felt out of place for a hotel at this price. The front desk and restaurant teams both seemed poorly managed and inattentive to guests during our stay.

Unwelcoming check-in with no greeting
Restaurant staff slow to respond to requests
Missing basic table setup at high tea

Our meal arrived five minutes early once, and staff apologized several times even though it didn't inconvenience us at all.

Sneha JindalJun 2026

From arrival to departure, every detail here reflected real warmth and hospitality, and the property itself is stunning. What stood out most was the attention to detail: our meal came out a few minutes ahead of schedule and the team apologized repeatedly, even though we didn't mind at all. We also got to meet the chef, who shared the recipe for one of our favorite dishes, which was a lovely, unexpected touch.

the team apologized multiple times, despite it being absolutely no inconvenience to usin their words

Prashant arranged a sweet surprise for our proposal anniversary, complete with a garden tour and a song.

Divya PherwaniJun 2026

We had a fabulous stay overall, and the vibe of the property came through in every part of it, right down to the activities they arranged for guests. Dinki, Sourabh, and Prerna were all especially helpful along the way. Prashant went out of his way for our proposal anniversary, arranging a surprise, a garden tour, and even singing for us.

The gym trainer Mohit made every workout session enjoyable and genuinely motivating.

Viren SibalJun 2026

The property itself is stunning, with architecture and surroundings that feel properly luxurious. Mohit Saini, the gym trainer, stood out for his professionalism and how personally invested he seemed in helping us hit our own fitness goals. Saurav also went out of his way throughout the stay, handling every request promptly and graciously.

After trying most of the big properties in Udaipur, Raffles has the most activities for both adults and kids.

dhaval taunkJun 2026

We stayed as a family of three and came away impressed with how much there was to do without ever leaving the island. Dinner at Sawai was a highlight, chef Ranchod personally guided us through some special dishes, including papad paneer sabji and hare ghas ki roti, all fantastic. Nikita and Ankit both took great care of us throughout the stay.

Extensive on-site activities for families
Chef-guided Rajasthani dinner at Sawai
Strong endorsement

We were looked after so well that I'd say the service warrants six stars, not five.

Bhavana ShettyMay 2026

Suchana and Dinky in the restaurant took great care of us throughout, and Ankit at the front desk was thoughtful from the start. What stuck with me most: Mr. Satya, the housekeeping manager, walked us back to the hotel when we got lost off property, adding 40 minutes to his own commute home, well outside his shift. The island itself is packed with activities, enough that you could stay the whole trip without leaving.

I believe the property is a 5 star but the staff service should warrant 6 starsin their words
Staff went beyond duty hours to help guests
Wide range of on-site activities

Mr. Gaurav upgraded us to a private pool room with a lake view after learning it was my father's retirement trip.

P RApr 2026

We came to celebrate my father's 44 years of work, and the welcome was rose petals and a congratulatory cake from the moment we stepped in. Gaurav Mendiratta arranged everything and then upgraded us to a private pool room with a lake view, completely unprompted. Dinner at Sawai was excellent, and the Writer's Bar the next evening had an atmosphere worth experiencing on its own.

Unprompted upgrade for a special occasion
Sawai dinner and Writer's Bar atmosphere
Strong endorsement

As an Accor member on my honeymoon, the butler team and complimentary upgrade made the whole trip worth it.

Harsh ChandraApr 2026

Set apart from the main city on Udai Sagar Lake, it genuinely felt like a private world of its own. Gaurav, the butler manager, and Prashant on the butler team took care of everything, including a complimentary upgrade and honeymoon gifts. I'd recommend booking one of the island rooms, the dhow boat ride over is part of the experience, and the breakfast buffet rethinks the usual format well. My one note: the buffet's live counters repeat daily and could use more variety across cuisines.

Butler service with unprompted honeymoon touches
Distinct island arrival experience
Buffet live counters repeat daily with limited cuisine variety

What fat travellers ask

Is Raffles Udaipur worth it?

For most travelers writing about it, yes: the staff-level service is called out by name constantly, the island setting is genuinely distinct from anywhere else in the city, and the on-site activities suit families especially well. A rare detailed account describes poor front-desk and restaurant attentiveness, so it's not flawless, but it's an outlier against a large volume of specific praise.

What's the best time to visit Raffles Udaipur?

Reviews don't give strong seasonal detail, but the outdoor activities (archery, birdwatching, garden tours) suggest the cooler months common to Rajasthan travel generally work best.

Who is Raffles Udaipur best for?

Families and couples celebrating an occasion get the most attention here, based on repeated mentions of honeymoon upgrades, kid-friendly programming, and retirement or anniversary surprises arranged by staff.

How does Raffles Udaipur compare to staying in central Udaipur?

It trades proximity to the old city's palaces and lakefront for a private-island setting with its own activities; guests who wanted a self-contained resort stay say they never missed the city, but it's not a base for walking to sights.

How does Raffles Udaipur compare to Taj Lake Palace?

Raffles Udaipur is rated Fat Favorite at 17.5/20 on Fat Voyage; Taj Lake Palace is rated Fat Favorite at 16.5/20. Both are scored across Service, Rooms & Design, Location, Dining and Wellness from community, editorial and verified-guest evidence — the side-by-side comparison shows where each one leads.

How do I book Raffles Udaipur?

Two routes, and both end with the reservation sitting at the hotel in your name. Direct on the hotel's own site is the fastest — the Reserve button on this page goes straight to it. The other is through a travel advisor with consortia access: you pay the same rate the hotel is charging publicly, the hotel pays the advisor's commission instead of you, and an amenity package comes attached — breakfast for two daily, even on room-only rates, $100 property credit for food, drink or spa, room upgrade, subject to availability, early check-in and late check-out, subject to availability. We handle that side ourselves for readers who ask.

What is the smartest way to book Raffles Udaipur?

Through a travel advisor with consortia access, for almost everyone. You pay the hotel's own public rate and an amenity package comes on top that direct booking doesn't include — typically breakfast for two daily, even on room-only rates, $100 property credit for food, drink or spa, room upgrade, subject to availability, early check-in and late check-out, subject to availability. It costs nothing extra, because the hotel pays the commission rather than you. The one real exception is brand loyalty: advisor rates don't always earn nights toward status, so if you're chasing a tier or points, book direct. Short of that, there's no version of booking direct that leaves you better off. We're advisors ourselves, so you can just ask us.

Can I get a free room upgrade at Raffles Udaipur?

Never guaranteed — it depends on what's still unsold the day you arrive, and anyone promising one is guessing. Two things move the odds. The reliable one is booking through a consortia programme, where a room upgrade is written into the amenity package subject to availability; it costs nothing extra and it is the closest thing to a lever that exists. The other is telling the hotel in advance that you're celebrating something, which works more often than people expect. The first part is already handled if you book it with us.
