That kind of repetition, unprompted, months and years apart, is what a concierge team actually building itineraries looks like rather than just handing over a map. Rooms lean bold over traditional — mirrored bathrooms, sculptural furniture, and on the upper floors an Eiffel Tower sightline reviewers keep mentioning without being asked.

The building itself is where the price starts to wobble. Reports running into early 2026 describe broken fixtures, AC that took several technician visits to sort, and at least one account of a sewage smell and a cracked wall — not the kind of complaint you want at this rate. First-floor rooms catch bar noise until midnight, and the front door is inconsistently manned, with more than one guest mentioning they came and went unnoticed. The concierge team is excellent at building a day out but can be slow on basics: a simple restaurant confirmation took five days in one case. Book this one for the people and the art, not for flawless upkeep. If a spotless, predictable room matters more to you than a hotel with an actual point of view, this isn't it, and it's worth asking about your specific room before you commit. For everyone else, this is still the Paris stay people come back to by name.

Book Raffles for the all-suite rooms and the staff who run the place like they've done it since 1887, because that's what actually shows up, review after review: doormen naming returning guests unprompted, a butler quietly covering a cab fare when a card failed, hot honey-lemon water appearing for a hoarse guest with nobody asking. The 2019 rebuild gets praised for the same reason almost every time: soaring ceilings, period furnishings, bathrooms the size of the bedroom, and it reads as restored rather than staged. Breakfast comes up constantly as the standout meal of the stay, the mee goreng singled out often enough that it's clearly not a fluke.

None of that is the whole picture. Pre-arrival emails go unanswered for weeks with enough regularity that it looks like policy, not an off week. Check-in has produced real failures: wrong suite categories, guests left waiting hours past 3pm arrival with no follow-up once a manager apologized. And there's an uncomfortable, repeated thread of guests, especially those dressed casually, being challenged by staff about whether they belong on property, sometimes several times in one stay. That's not a single bad afternoon; it's happened to enough people, at enough different times, that you should assume it could be you. The Tiffin Room draws the same split every time too, gorgeous room, uneven food.

If the reason you're going is the history, the courtyards and the kind of staff who remember your drink order by day two, this still beats Fullerton Bay or a comparable Marina Bay Sands suite for that specific feeling. If you're travelling light on formality and don't want to explain yourself to a doorman, that risk is real here, not folklore, so price it in before you book, not after.
