One guest's deluxe room came with a giant mirrored bathroom and an Eiffel Tower sightline from the sitting area; another spent a jet-lagged first night being gently lectured by the turndown attendant to lock up her passport, which says something about the kind of care on offer here. The people are why guests rebook, not the incidental nice touch.

The building is where the price starts to wobble. Reports running into 2026 describe an AC problem needing several technician visits before a room change fixed it, a sewage smell and a damaged wall in another room, and a general sense that the fixtures don't always match the rate. First-floor rooms catch bar noise until midnight, and the front door goes unmanned often enough that guests mention coming and going unnoticed. The concierge, for all the goodwill, can be slow on basics: one simple restaurant confirmation took five days to come back. Matsuhisa gets real praise for the room and the staff, but more than one diner found the menu thin for the price; breakfast and Le Bar Long, snacks and all, get closer to universal approval.

Book this one for the people and the art, not for flawless upkeep. If you want a spotless, predictable room over a hotel with an actual point of view, that's a fair preference and this isn't the address for it. For most people who've done the other Paris palaces and found them interchangeable, this is the one that stops feeling like a hotel.

A night here starts around the price of a very good flight and comes with a butler, a birthday cake you didn't ask for, and a doorman who might remember your name by the second time you walk through the door. The building earns every bit of that reputation: the 2019 restoration kept the brass switches and the peanut shells on the Long Bar floor while quietly rebuilding the bathrooms to be nearly the size of the bedrooms. People who stayed thirty years ago and came back say it hasn't lost the charm, which is rare for a hotel this famous.

Most of what goes right here is the staff going out of their way without being asked twice. One butler ran a bath and poured Singapore Slings in-room; a doorman paid a guest's cash-only cab fare out of his own pocket rather than let them stand there stuck. But the same period produced a real problem: several guests, including at least one on a honeymoon, describe being stopped and asked if they belonged in guest-only areas, more than once in the same stay. It reads like an over-corrected security posture after the renovation, not a one-off bad shift, and it's worth knowing before you book if you don't fit whoever the front desk has decided a Raffles guest looks like.

Book it for the Palm Court suites, the Tiffin Room, and a slow afternoon in the courtyard: on history and atmosphere in Singapore, nothing else in the city competes. Go elsewhere, maybe the Mandarin Oriental across town, if a smooth check-in matters more to you than the grandeur.
