He did well by the Four Seasons in Paris and Megève, but a 346-key hotel inspired by 'majestic Egyptian palaces' is a concept that can read as either confident local character or lobby-level pastiche — we'll want to see which side it lands on when it opens.
Whether the opening date actually holds. The announcement went out in 2022 with a 2025 target; that slipped, with some sources now citing 2026 and the property still unlisted on Four Seasons' live hotel portfolio as of mid-2026. The free boat shuttle to ICONSIAM and the BTS is a genuinely useful perk rather than a gimmick, and the staff seem to actually track who you are: one family had a sick parent looked after with a late-night search for a pharmacy, another had headphones left behind at the airport chased down and delivered before their flight left. That's the kind of thing that makes people say they'll be back, and a lot of them do. The food is the real gap between the reputation and the reality. Breakfast draws specific, repeated complaints: thin options for dietary restrictions, staff who don't check in during the meal, no coffee menu unless you ask. A couple who skipped dinner on property after a disappointing lobby lunch and letdown pancakes the next morning isn't a one-off shrug. The Lobby Bar and BKK Social Club are the surprise wins — better than the flagship restaurants by most accounts — but you're not booking this hotel for the breakfast buffet the brand name might imply. Large group bookings can also crowd the pool and breakfast room enough to dent the sense of exclusivity you're paying for, and the spa or sauna being closed for renovation shows up often enough to ask about before you book. The service and the building are what you're actually paying for, and they clear the bar comfortably even with the food underperforming. Families do especially well here: kids' club, tents set up in rooms, staff who remember a toddler's name by day two. Anyone chasing a top-tier breakfast spread might do better elsewhere in the city, but for the room, the river, and a staff that fixes its own mistakes without a fuss, this is one of the best city hotels in Bangkok going.

The case for the Four Seasons Hong Kong is simple: it's the easiest 5-star base on the island, and the staff back it up in ways that don't show up on a rate sheet. One guest's partner had a small hole in her dress fixed during a routine pressing, no request needed. Another wanted a mango at breakfast, mentioned it once, and it appeared minutes later. A porter walked bags all the way to the Airport Express platform. That's the same shape of story from 2019 through this summer, told by different travellers who have nothing to do with each other. The building is the honest trade-off. Several recent stays, including one detailed enough to score infrastructure separately, note the spa and gym feel dated next to newer Four Seasons openings, and the harbour view depends entirely on which floor and side you land: one January 2026 guest got a construction site instead of Victoria Harbour. None of that touches the three Michelin-starred restaurants on property. Lung King Heen and Caprice both pull the same travellers back on repeat visits, and the pool draws the kind of praise regulars save for the best in the city. The one comparison worth knowing: people who've also done the Rosewood across the harbour tend to rate that hotel's rooms and design higher, while putting the Four Seasons ahead on service and calling it the better call if you actually want to be based on Hong Kong Island. That's a real trade, not a knock against either. Book this one for the location and the staff who remember you between stays, not for a freshly renovated building. On those two, nothing else in Central comes close.

Guests get escorted to the 39th-floor lobby and checked in without ever standing at a desk, and the stories pile up: a front desk agent arranging an English-speaking doctor and off-menu chicken broth for a guest with food poisoning, a concierge team coordinating an entire week of reservations over WhatsApp before the flight even landed. The breakfast gets called the best in Tokyo often enough that it's worth building a morning around, and Virtu, the bar off the lobby, has a following of its own. Where it gets more mixed: the rooms lean minimalist rather than warm, which a few guests flag as un-Four-Seasons, and the lobby sitting six floors up means two separate elevators to reach a room, which reads as fussy after a long flight. One guest found the spa's steel-lined pool and rules-heavy vibe more clinical than relaxing. And the address, ten minutes from Tokyo Station rather than in the middle of Ginza or Shibuya, splits opinion: some love the quiet, some call it inconvenient for transit despite the subway lines underneath the building. Janu Tokyo, the newer arrival at Azabudai Hills, comes up constantly as the alternative — better suites, weaker views, no age minimum at this pool versus most others. Book it if you want a Tokyo base that treats you like a regular by day two and don't need to be in the middle of Shibuya's noise. The views of the Imperial Palace and, on clear days, Mount Fuji, are hard to argue with at any price.

The garden is what you're paying for as much as the room. Eleven acres, the largest private grounds in central Florence, and you walk through the gate and the city noise just stops, even though the Duomo is a walk away, not a drive. That's the reason people keep coming back even though the hotel sits slightly outside the main tourist core. The garden and the Michelin-starred cooking at Il Palagio are the two reasons to book this over anywhere else in the city. Staff show up by name and by specific act: a server named Francesco pushed the signature Negroni and made the table's night; a spa technician named Letizia got singled out for a nail appointment that ran long in the best way. The real thing to know about is check-in. One recent report describes a honeymooning couple told, as they were shown to their room, some version of "well you would have had this... but you have..." after they'd already declined a paid suite upgrade — that's a training problem, not bad luck, and worth shutting down politely if it starts. Base-category rooms draw a separate, fair complaint too: dark, small, and a real step down from the palazzo suites; one guest was pushed toward one and only got moved after complaining twice. Summer brings enough toddlers to the pool that a couple of travellers found it more nursery than adult retreat, and the poolside burger gets called flavorless more than once. None of that changes the case. Book above the base room if you can stretch to it, push back once if the upsell starts, and go outside peak family season if the pool matters to you. Book it for the garden and the kitchen at Il Palagio.
