Chennai's East Coast Road, the resort strip running south of the city, gets a second Taj with this 151-key greenfield on a 13-acre beachfront site, developed with MGM Healthcare. The ECR has become the weekend escape route for Chennai, and a beachfront Taj here is aimed at that leisure flow.

A 13-acre beachfront plot for 151 keys leaves plenty of space for pools, dining and the kind of seaside layout that day-trippers and short-stay guests look for. No opening date has been confirmed. What we will be watching for is how this second ECR Taj carves out its own identity rather than competing head-on with IHCL's existing property on the same road, and whether the beachfront is private and well used. We have not stayed, so this is anticipation, not a verdict.
