The Verdict
Oberoi Udaivilas delivers the full Rajasthani fantasy — a sprawling 50-acre palace on Lake Pichola that feels genuinely palatial rather than resort-standard. The Mughal-influenced architecture creates dramatic courtyards and reflecting pools, while every room faces either the lake or manicured gardens. Service hits that rare sweet spot of intuitive without being intrusive, with staff who remember your mango preference by day two. The location is unbeatable — boat access across the lake, peacocks roaming the grounds, and sunrise views that justify the price. While dining is solid rather than destination-worthy, and the spa offerings feel routine for this tier, the overall experience transcends typical luxury hospitality into something approaching genuine royal treatment.

What People Say
I stayed in December 2023 for about $850 a night — same room, and I agree with everything except the breakfast buffet was underwhelming.
During peak wedding time, be mindful that unavailable dates mean they're hosting weddings with full buyouts. Bridal parties start showing up days in advance and it can be a nuisance. The free roaming peacocks are my favorite part of the property though.
It breaks my heart to give Udaivilas a 2-star review — they said no space at the bar, dinner needed 48-hour reservations.
When we arrived for our 9:30 reservation, both restaurants were completely empty, literally not one other table. The staff kept saying there's no booking under your name but arranged a table anyway. The wine quality was unexpectedly low, though the food was nice. We got a vibe the staff didn't want to give us the reservation.
The property looks like a real palace with amazing architecture — staff are super polite and make you feel special from arrival.
The rooms are clean, spacious, and full of royal charm. The food was delicious and the lake view was breathtaking. Everything feels calm, luxurious, and perfectly managed. A must-visit if you're coming to Udaipur.
We had some family sickness and the hotel was very homely — they took care of the kids like their own.
The facilities were really good and food was wholesome. When we ordered a dish, several snacks, salad etc were offered in addition to the entree. I would recommend this palace to anyone wanting to experience feeling like royalty or family.
I scored this place 98.64 out of 100 — we stayed three nights and never left the property because it was too beautiful to leave.
The Premier Rooms with Pool View are the sweet spot — you get the Lake Pichola views without paying for the private pool rooms that actually have no view. We spent most of our time on the patio by the pool watching birds over the lake. My husband is Indian and he loved everything we ate here. The whole experience for three nights was $2,500 and I've been wanting to go back for a longer stay ever since.
As a hotel owner myself from Costa Rica, this place reset my standards completely — it's a masterclass in hospitality.
My own properties are rated high, so I don't review lightly. This isn't just a hotel, it's a school for what top-level hospitality looks like when every detail is intentional. You wake up already impressed by the location. The team is warm, precise, present, human — you feel seen, not managed. Breakfast deserves its own paragraph, not just food but an experience that starts your day feeling nourished, not rushed.
We went for our honeymoon and they upgraded us to the semi-private pool for the entire stay — the staff went above and beyond.
The property has nature all around with lovely sounds of cuckoo and peacocks. Anjali and everyone else on staff were incredibly warm and kind throughout our stay. They welcomed us warmly and maintained that warmth for the duration. The hospitality was great and they accommodated all our requests. We'd definitely love to come back again.
I organized a city tour, boat ride over Lake Pichola, and curated dinner menu with Simran's help — everything was done to perfection.
This was our honeymoon experience and I've never encountered this level of service in my life. We also arranged a wedding photo shoot with Anshul who did an amazing job with his team. The hotel is 10 out of 10 in all aspects — food, service, location, room, activities. Both my wife and I would return to Udaipur just for this experience again.
The architecture and views across Lake Pichola are breathtaking — a perfect blend of heritage and elegance.
I stayed here with my family and every moment felt special from the warm welcome to incredible attention to detail. The rooms are spacious, beautifully designed with stunning views. Whether enjoying a peaceful evening by the pool, a boat ride at sunset, or dining at their restaurant, the experience felt magical. It's ideal for families and couples seeking a quiet, romantic, and truly luxurious escape.
