The Verdict
Aman-i-Khas is the rare property where the concept and the execution are perfectly matched — ten Mughal-inspired canvas tents on the edge of Ranthambore, rebuilt by hand each season after the monsoon strips everything away, with 80 staff for those 10 guests. The so-called Batman butler system is the property's genuine superpower: across dozens of independent reviews, guests describe a quality of anticipatory, personalized service that ranks among the best they've encountered anywhere in the world. The stepwell pool is an architectural masterstroke — grey stone, dappled shade, and the sound of drying leaves — and the farm-to-table dining consistently earns praise as among the finest food in India. The one honest caveat is the nickel-and-diming: base rates hover around $1,200–1,500 a night, but private safaris, transfers, and add-ons can push a short stay north of $6,000–7,000 in incidentals, which sits uncomfortably against Aman's brand promise. Occasional maintenance lapses — a jammed bathtub, a missed yoga escort — and some furniture that prioritizes aesthetics over comfort are minor friction points in what is otherwise one of the most consistently praised safari properties on earth.

What People Say
The property is absolutely beautiful, the service was exceptional, and seeing a wild tiger up close was one of those moments I'll never fully explain to someone who wasn't there.
I couldn't find much written about Aman-i-Khas before my visit, which felt strange for a property this special. We'd also stayed at the Oberoi in Ranthambore — which I genuinely liked — but the Aman was simply on another level entirely. The design, the intimacy, the guides: all of it.
Where else on earth can you stay in a luxury tent and watch tigers in their natural habitat? The quiet around that stepwell pool alone makes it once-in-a-lifetime.
The sounds of drying leaves above the trees surrounding the stone stepwell pool create a silence that I haven't found anywhere else. The people, the service, the setting all exceed any reasonable benchmark — it feels like a place that knows exactly what it is and commits fully.
Having stayed at many of the world's top luxury properties, I can say with confidence that this level of service is genuinely rare — and the welcome foot massage set exactly the right tone.
Our tent was enormous and beautifully put together. The dedicated Batman butler was extraordinary — not just competent but genuinely invested. The stepwell pool surrounded by those fallen leaves has a quietness that stays with you long after you leave.
If you're going to Ranthambore, don't separate yourself from nature in a conventional hotel — these tents are the only way to do this properly.
My Batman KC anticipated my movements in a way I found almost uncanny. The food was superb and I had no stomach concerns whatsoever, which for India is genuinely reassuring. I'd recommend using the Aman's own driver for your airport transfer — worth the premium for peace of mind on a three-hour journey.
We brought our two kids, aged two and five, and the staff was spectacularly patient — they even sorted us a last-minute safari with less than a day's notice.
Both children loved running freely around the property, which tells you something about the space and the safety. The food was fantastic and the service team worked what felt like a small miracle getting us booked into a Ranthambore safari at extremely short notice. The spa was genuinely good too — not a weak link. If all camping felt like this, I'd be a very different kind of traveler.
The tents blend traditional Rajasthani craft with modern comfort in a way that never feels contrived — and the people here are what make it truly special.
I arrived expecting beautiful design and got that, but I didn't expect the evening folk music or the yoga session to move me as much as they did. GM Kishan and batman Dushi were present and warm without ever tipping into intrusive. You come away not just with memories of luxury but with a genuine sense of having connected to the land and the people who live around it — which, at most hotels in this tier, simply doesn't happen.
I've stayed at a few Amans now and this one has a very specific kind of magic — slower, more introspective, and it feels like a genuine reset.
Our Batman Duci understood the rhythm of our stay almost instantly — timing meals perfectly, recalling small preferences without being asked, checking in at exactly the right moments. That kind of attentiveness is what turns a great stay into a genuinely special one. GM Kishan runs the property with a quiet confidence you can feel from the moment you arrive: everything works, nothing is overbearing, and the whole team moves in alignment. The new tents are stunning and still feel completely rooted in the environment rather than imposed on it.
This is by far the best service our family has ever received anywhere — and we travel often and set the bar high.
Our ten-year-old son was the only child at the property during our stay, and the chef went completely off-menu to cook food he'd actually eat, checking in multiple times a day to make sure he was happy. Every staff member who passed would stop to hear him recount his safari adventures with genuine enthusiasm. Our Batman Dushyant told us to treat the place as a home, and it honestly felt exactly like staying with a wonderful friend. The dining experiences are expensive but they put real thought into making each one memorable.
As a frequent luxury traveler this place genuinely stands apart — the detail and personalization are on a level I rarely encounter.
Butler Kartik made us feel completely at home from arrival, anticipating every need before we thought to express it. The tiger safari was thrilling in the way only the real thing can be. What surprised me was the evening program — a bonfire with a local folk singer at sunset that was somehow both simple and completely magical. The food covered both Indian and international cuisines at a genuinely high level, and GM Kishan's attention to the details of every guest's experience was evident throughout.
Best hotel in India, and one of the best I've stayed at anywhere — the only things I'd fix are the repetitive evening music and the bumpy access road.
The tents are everything the photos suggest: proper shower, soaking tub, dual sinks, large bed, climate control that actually works, a big sitting area, and private chairs outside for watching the jungle at its edges. The sustainability program is genuine and not performative — they grow food on-site, recycle water, and use locally sourced materials. Every staff member, from manager to housekeeping, checks in with real warmth. Minor gripes: no TV (which some will love, others won't), canvas walls mean you hear the neighborhood, the dirt access road is rough, and the evening background music repeats itself.
Our Batman set up a surprise birthday table with flowers and a cake — that kind of spontaneous thoughtfulness is what I'll remember longest.
The property never felt crowded; with a limited number of tents you genuinely feel like you have the place to yourself. The food was some of the best we ate on our entire India trip. Spa massages were fabulous — genuinely skilled, not just going through the motions. The only disruption was a monkey on the tent roof at 3am, which is less a complaint and more evidence that the jungle is exactly as close as they promise.

What fat travellers ask
Is Aman-i-Khas worth it?
For a tiger safari experience, it's close to unrivaled — the combination of elite naturalist guides, extraordinary butler service, and an intimate 10-tent footprint justifies the premium. Budget carefully though: the base room rate is only part of the story, and private safaris and transfers can double your total spend.
What's the best time to visit Aman-i-Khas?
The property operates only eight months of the year — it closes during monsoon season (roughly July through September) when the tents are dismantled and rebuilt. October through March offers the best wildlife sighting conditions and the most comfortable temperatures in Ranthambore.
How does Aman-i-Khas compare to nearby alternatives?
Nothing in Ranthambore comes close at this tier — guests who've compared it to other luxury options in the area consistently place it on another level. The nearest Aman peer is Amanbagh near Sariska Tiger Reserve, but most guests who've done both describe Aman-i-Khas as the more immersive wildlife experience.
Who is Aman-i-Khas best for?
It's ideal for couples and small families seeking a high-service wildlife escape without sacrificing comfort — the property has handled young children beautifully, including off-menu cooking for picky eaters. Solo travelers and honeymooners drawn to solitude and nature will find it equally transformative.
Should I book safaris through Aman-i-Khas or independently?
Book through the property. The Aman-contracted naturalists have decades of experience reading tiger movement in Ranthambore's zones, and multiple guests report seeing tiger families for hours when those who hired outside guides saw nothing. The premium is real, but so is the difference in outcomes.
