The Oberoi Rishikesh

A Bill Bensley-designed 'vilas'-branded resort on a 60-acre Ganges site.

Rishikesh, India

First look

Announced in March 2025 through a partnership with The Ladhani Group, this is an Oberoi 'vilas'-branded resort planned for a 60-acre site on the Ganges at Rishikesh, with around 80 keys and design by Bill Bensley. The 'vilas' line is Oberoi's resort tier (Amarvilas, Udaivilas, Rajvilas), so the naming signals a destination property rather than a city hotel, and Bensley's involvement points to a maximalist, landscape-led approach.

Construction is set to begin in early 2026 with completion reported around 2029, so this is a multi-year build. A separate 120-key Trident-branded hotel is planned at the same site but sits under Oberoi's sister brand. What we'll be watching for is how the design handles a 60-acre riverside plot in a town known more for yoga and pilgrimage than luxury resorts, and whether the Ganges setting is genuinely the centre of the plan.
