First look
Four Seasons has taken over the Danieli, and that is a bigger deal than another five-star opening. This is the brand stepping into one of Venice’s most recognizable addresses: three connected palaces on the Riva degli Schiavoni, a short walk from Piazza San Marco and the Doge’s Palace, with the lagoon right outside the door. The oldest of the three, Palazzo Dandolo, dates to the 15th century and has run as a hotel since 1822.
The restoration is led by Pierre-Yves Rochon, who has handled the interiors at several historic Four Seasons properties across Europe. It opened on July 30, 2026 with 120 rooms and suites, climbing to 176 by 2027 — roughly four weeks ahead of the August arrivals date Four Seasons had announced.
What we’ll be watching
Whether Four Seasons keeps the Danieli’s weight. The building has run as a hotel since 1822 and carries real Venetian character — the risk is house-style polish smoothing that into any-city luxury. We’ll be watching whether the restoration preserves the grain or buffs it out.
Whether the phased opening bites. It opened with 120 rooms and climbs to 176 in 2027 — staying during the build-out can mean work next door at full-rate prices. We’d want to know which wing is finished before booking.
Whether the lagoon-facing rooms justify the premium. The address on the Riva degli Schiavoni is the whole point, and the rooms over the water will command a steep premium. We’ll be watching whether the view earns it or you’re paying for the postcard.
