The honest review of Fairmont Udaipur Palace

Community score pending

The fat travel community hasn’t weighed in yet. When they do, it gets its score.

The verdict

Fairmont opened this palace in July 2025, and it is built for weddings rather than passing trade: expect a packed events calendar and plan around it. What you get for that is a genuinely large, playful take on palace architecture in the hills above Udaipur, rooms with private plunge pools, and a staff that keeps fixing things most hotels would let slide. One guest’s phone went missing at a wedding lunch; the head of security stayed on the case through borrowed numbers until it turned up. Another family had their quiet corner protected from a wedding party by being moved, unprompted, to a calmer wing with their own pool.

The trade-off is real and worth pricing in. Book during wedding season and you may wait on a buggy, queue at check-in, or watch the buffet dinner turn lukewarm while the kitchen is stretched across a banquet and a dining room at once; one guest’s à la carte dinner was excellent the same night their buffet was mediocre. The hotel also sits well outside Udaipur proper, so a private cab or Uber back into the old city takes planning, not a wave at the door. The buffet and the peak-wedding crowds are the one consistent gap between what’s promised and what shows up on a packed weekend.

None of that should talk you out of it. Book a plunge-pool room and eat à la carte, not buffet, on any night there’s a wedding on property. Go for a family trip, an anniversary, or a quieter shoulder-season stretch and the mini golf, pickleball, multiple pools and the gym (genuinely excellent, by more than one account) make it worth the distance from town. For a few nights of being properly looked after in the hills outside Udaipur, this earns the booking.

Strengths

  • Private plunge pools in multiple room categories
  • Staff consistently go beyond the basics, from recovering lost items to surprise celebration setups
  • Wide range of activities including mini golf, pickleball, horse riding and a kids’ club
  • Bahaar restaurant and the Dastaan tea lounge draw consistent praise for food and atmosphere
  • A gym and spa that stand out even against other luxury properties in India

Trade-offs

  • Buffet dinner service is inconsistent and food can arrive cold
  • Getting a private cab or Uber into Udaipur city is genuinely difficult
  • Wedding events on property can slow check-in, buggy service and restaurant attention for other guests

What people say

The team celebrated my daughter’s birthday in a way that made the whole trip feel personal.

PRINCE MASSEY Aug 2026

From check-in to check-out the staff were warm and attentive, but it was the effort they put into my daughter’s birthday that stood out. They didn’t just acknowledge it, they built real moments around it that she’ll remember. It wasn’t just a stay, it was a celebration the whole family is still talking about.

  • Thoughtful handling of a child’s birthday

My plunge pool room was superb and dinner at the Italian restaurant, cooked that night by a visiting Michelin chef, was unforgettable.

Tejaswini Vukkadala Jul 2026

The property felt expansive without being impersonal, and the staff made my birthday feel genuinely celebrated. The standout of the whole trip was an Italian dinner organised by a visiting Michelin chef, which was one of the better meals I’ve had on a hotel stay anywhere. Tanishka handled all the communication beforehand and made the planning easy.

  • Standout plunge-pool suite
  • Memorable special-event dining

Red flag

I paid for a five-star stay and got poor, unprofessional service instead.

Hur shah Jul 2026

The overall experience didn’t match the price. Staff were unhelpful, there was a clear lack of professionalism, and the facilities and cleanliness fell short of what I’d expect. I left feeling like my money had been wasted and I’d think twice before booking again.

  • Service felt unprofessional
  • Facilities didn’t match the price

As a wedding planner who’s worked many luxury venues, this one genuinely stands out for how far the team goes.

Krushna Chauhan Jun 2026

The team here is supportive and professional in a way I don’t take for granted given how many venues I see. Service during events is seamless, and the view of the Aravallis makes every celebration feel bigger than it is. It’s a beautiful property backed by a team that actually delivers.

  • Reliable event execution
  • Aravalli hill views enhance celebrations

Lizi, Ranjit, Abhijit and Himanshu went well beyond what I expected from hotel staff.

Vani banthia May 2026

From the warm welcome to the impeccable hospitality, every part of the stay felt handled with care. The ambience, service and cleanliness were all top-notch throughout. I’d happily recommend this to anyone looking for a luxurious, memorable stay in Udaipur.

Dastaan, the tea and coffee lounge, was the most elegant quiet corner of the whole property.

Sneha Sonone May 2026

The lighting and interiors inside Dastaan felt both luxurious and genuinely cozy, a good spot to sit for a while with someone. The coffee was well brewed and presented with real care. Staff there were polite and quick without being intrusive, which made it easy to just sit and relax.

  • Dastaan’s atmosphere and coffee quality

This was the best Fairmont I’ve stayed at, and we went in the offseason as a couple.

Adam Parker Aug 2026

The hotel is newer and clearly built with weddings in mind, but we had no trouble getting a relaxed, uncrowded stay out of it. We used the pools, tried mini golf, paddle and pickleball, and the gym was honestly the best hotel gym I’ve used anywhere in India. Being up in the hills gave us a real sense of being away from the city while Udaipur was still an easy drive.

  • Best hotel gym in India experience
  • Easy access to Udaipur without feeling crowded

Even sold out, the service didn’t slip at all, it felt close to being pampered.

Satteesh Sridharan Aug 2026

Pratik and Vedant looked after us really well despite the hotel running at full capacity. There are so many photogenic corners inside the palace that we ended up hiring a photographer for a proper shoot. The rooms were spacious and genuinely impressive. My one complaint is that getting a private cab or Uber from the hotel into the city was harder than it should be.

  • Service held up at full occupancy
  • Spacious, photogenic rooms
  • Difficult to find cabs or Ubers to the city

There was a wedding on property during our stay, so the hotel quietly moved us to a calmer wing with our own plunge pool.

Dwaipayan Guha Jul 2026

Taniska welcomed us warmly and arranged a small cake for our celebration. We hadn’t asked to be moved, but once the team realised a wedding would be loud near our original room, they shifted us somewhere quiet with a private plunge pool attached. Breakfast and dinner buffets were genuinely excellent, with real attention to authentic flavours, and the restaurant staff never let us want for anything.

“That was a truly brilliant gesture from the team.” in their words
  • Proactively moved away from wedding noise
  • Strong breakfast and dinner buffets

Mixed read

The property is grand and the housekeeping team was excellent, but there was a wedding on and it showed in the regular guest service.

Hussain Bhemat Jul 2026

Housekeeping was professional and attentive throughout, and there was never a shortage of dining options. The welcome staff near the patio weren’t able to answer basic questions about activities or buggy service, and we had to call twice and wait about ten minutes for a buggy. Check-in dragged, and with a wedding happening we felt like a lower priority; I had to get a manager involved just to get our breakfast order taken, after which things moved faster.

  • Excellent housekeeping
  • Wide range of dining options
  • Slow buggy service
  • Attention to regular guests drops during weddings

The spa and the room were excellent, but the plunge pool had no views since it was enclosed on all sides.

Prateek Pathak May 2026

Check-in was smooth and the rooms were spacious and well kept. The plunge pool, while nice, was shared across rooms and boxed in with no outlook, and cleaning happened late enough in the morning that early swims weren’t really an option. My birthday was made special with a decorated room and a cake waiting when we got back from dinner, a genuinely thoughtful touch. The à la carte dinners were excellent, but buffet dinner was a letdown: cold food and inconsistent service, though once we flagged it to the manager they made real effort to fix it and offered a discount.

  • Thoughtful birthday surprise
  • Strong à la carte dining
  • Enclosed plunge pool with no views
  • Inconsistent buffet dinner service

My phone was stolen at a wedding lunch and the head of security personally stayed on it until I got it back.

Bridge May 2026

Aradhana in housekeeping kept my room spotless and even made me coffee each morning, which was a small thing that mattered. The real test came when my phone went missing during a wedding event and was switched off within minutes. Ms. Arti, head of security, stayed in constant contact with my family through borrowed phone numbers and eventually traced it to whoever had taken it. It’s a huge property with a lot of staff, and that effort is what luxury actually looks like.

“Huge property with an army of people making it the epitome of luxury!” in their words
  • Housekeeping went beyond basic duties
  • Security recovered a stolen phone

The suite with the private pool was the highlight of a quick overnight trip.

Nandini Lal May 2026

We had just one night but it felt relaxing from start to finish, and the private pool suite was perfect in the afternoon heat. We spent most of our time between the main pool and a casual game of pool in the games area. Dinner and drinks at Bahaar and cocktails at Dahaad were both excellent, with a calm, unpretentious atmosphere given how upscale the place actually is.

“Love love loved it!” in their words
  • Great private pool suite
  • Bahaar and Dahaad both deliver on food and drinks

Having stayed at quite a few five-star properties, I’d say this staff is among the most well-trained I’ve come across.

mehak singhal Apr 2026

The welcome drinks and a short hotel tour set a warm tone right from arrival. We loved the extra touches, like muffin decorating, pizza making and mocktail sessions, that made the stay feel personal rather than generic. Even when we asked for things that weren’t straightforward, the team tried hard to make it happen, and the restaurant staff checked in on us at a good pace without hovering.

  • Hands-on activities like pizza and mocktail making
  • Attentive without being intrusive

Dattaram personally oversaw our booking, and the team joined us for paddle both evenings to make it feel like more than a transaction.

Suvarna Mandal Apr 2026

We came for my birthday and the property itself was serene and thoughtfully designed. Rosie, Nanad and Dhruv took care of every meal with real attention, and Ashish and Aniket joined us for paddle in the evenings, which turned a routine activity into something genuinely fun. It’s rare to find a team this invested in making a short stay feel celebrated.

  • Staff join guests for activities
  • Personal oversight of bookings and meals

About Fairmont Udaipur Palace

Fairmont Udaipur Palace opened in July 2025 in the Aravalli Hills on the outskirts of Udaipur, Rajasthan, a short drive from the city centre. The building takes a contemporary approach to palace architecture rather than replicating traditional Rajasthani design, with multiple room categories including suites with private plunge pools. The property is large in scale and was developed with weddings and events as a core part of its business alongside individual leisure stays.

On property, dining options include Bahaar restaurant, the Dahaad bar, and Dastaan, a tea and coffee lounge. Wellness facilities include a spa, steam room, gym, and multiple swimming pools. Recreational facilities include mini golf, paddle, pickleball, a children’s activity room called The Den, and horse riding. The hills location provides views of the surrounding Aravalli range while keeping the city of Udaipur within driving distance.

What fat travellers ask

Is Fairmont Udaipur Palace worth it?

For a few nights focused on the property itself, yes: the rooms, pools and staff effort consistently exceed what guests expect, especially for birthdays and anniversaries. It’s a harder sell if your priority is easy, frequent access to Udaipur’s old city, since the hillside location makes that a planned outing rather than a quick trip.

What’s the best time to visit Fairmont Udaipur Palace?

Shoulder season or quieter weekdays avoid the hotel’s heavy wedding calendar, which is when guests report slower check-in, buffet service under strain, and stretched buggy and front-of-house staff.

Who is Fairmont Udaipur Palace best for?

Couples and families celebrating a specific occasion, and anyone who wants a resort-style stay with pools and activities rather than a base for daily sightseeing in Udaipur.

Is it easy to get into Udaipur city from the hotel?

Not especially. Multiple guests note that finding a private cab or Uber from the property into the city takes real effort, so plan transport in advance rather than relying on hailing one on the spot.

Does the hotel handle special occasions well?

This is one of its strongest points. Guests repeatedly describe surprise cake setups, decorated rooms and personal gestures for birthdays, anniversaries and even a 25th wedding anniversary, arranged without much advance request.

How do I book Fairmont Udaipur Palace?

Two routes, and both end with the reservation sitting at the hotel in your name. Direct on the hotel’s own site is the fastest — the Reserve button on this page goes straight to it. The other is through a travel advisor with consortia access: you pay the same rate the hotel is charging publicly, the hotel pays the advisor’s commission instead of you, and an amenity package comes attached — breakfast for two, a credit to spend on property, and a room upgrade when one is free. We handle that side ourselves for readers who ask.

What is the smartest way to book Fairmont Udaipur Palace?

Through a travel advisor with consortia access, for almost everyone. You pay the hotel’s own public rate and an amenity package comes on top that direct booking doesn’t include — typically breakfast for two, a credit to spend on property, and a room upgrade when one is free. It costs nothing extra, because the hotel pays the commission rather than you. The one real exception is brand loyalty: advisor rates don’t always earn nights toward status, so if you’re chasing a tier or points, book direct. Short of that, there’s no version of booking direct that leaves you better off. We’re advisors ourselves, so you can just ask us.

Can I get a free room upgrade at Fairmont Udaipur Palace?

Never guaranteed — it depends on what’s still unsold the day you arrive, and anyone promising one is guessing. Two things move the odds. The reliable one is booking through a consortia programme, where a room upgrade is written into the amenity package subject to availability; it costs nothing extra and it is the closest thing to a lever that exists. The other is telling the hotel in advance that you’re celebrating something, which works more often than people expect. The first part is already handled if you book it with us.

Most weeks, we leave you alone.
