The Verdict
Aman New York delivers the most impressive hard product in Manhattan — Jean-Michel Gathy's soaring interiors and genuinely spacious suites create an urban sanctuary that feels more like Tokyo than Times Square. The 33rd-floor arrival and Fifth Avenue location are undeniable highlights, and the three-floor spa with its 65-foot pool ranks among the world's best urban wellness spaces. But here's the rub: service lacks the intuitive Aman magic that justifies the $3,000+ nightly tariff. Staff are polite and professional, yet often miss the anticipatory grace notes that make other Aman properties transformative. At twice the cost of comparable Manhattan luxury, it's a stunning hotel that feels more like a beautiful backdrop than a hospitality experience.

What People Say
I'm on the Aman NY train right now despite wanting to hate the obvious price gouge — the hard product is so superior to anything else in the city.
My third stay was so good that it's hard to ignore. When you're spending more time at the hotel than not, the superior hard product makes the price premium worth accepting. It's unfortunately become my go-to when I don't want to deal with the inconsistencies of other Manhattan luxury options.
Grace at the front desk makes the whole experience feel like a bargain — I would say it's worth every penny and more.
Of course you always expect a lot from Aman, especially in New York. Grace is so kind, patient and professional that the soft service feels second-to-none. Every top hotel has great hardware, but her attention to details and ability to anticipate our needs sets this apart.
My friend and I went through the whole sauna and cold plunge routine at the spa — it was absolutely amazing and changed my mind about spas.
The spa has exceptional treatments and the Hammam Spa House with your own suite is incredible. We had our own outdoor space with cold plunge pool and hot tub, plus indoor-outdoor fireplace and private spa room. The massages and facials were fabulous in this exceptional setting.
By far the best hotel in New York — the suites are amazing, staff very friendly, and they treated my dog like a king.
The spa is absolutely breathtaking and the staff went above and beyond for my pet. Even when I wasn't present, they wanted to stay with him to make sure he had everything he needed. The level of care and attention extends to every guest, whether human or canine.
My boyfriend wants to try the Aman but I told him about the horrible experiences I had — we can stay in the best hotel in New York for half the price and receive 1000 times better service.
I have to agree with all the negative reviews here. Never again — there are much better options in the city that don't charge these outrageous premiums for subpar service execution.
We stayed in a Fifth Avenue junior suite for four nights — great location and high-quality build, but don't expect the same service as tropical Amans.
The room controls via iPad are seamless, and you can tell the construction was done right. The spa couples experience was amazing with connecting sauna and plunge pools. The advertised butler service basically doesn't exist, and the concierge couldn't get us into top restaurants. The jazz club is definitely worth it — just get a booth, not bar stools. If you're expecting to be transported for an extra $2k per night, you'll be disappointed.
I travel to New York every few months and always choose the Aman — the rooms are simply stunning, and the spa has completely changed my mind about spas.
The suites are spectacular whether you book basic or upgrade, though I'm not sure the extra square footage justifies the price jump. My one complaint is the lack of a full-length mirror, but they brought one up immediately when I called. The staff treats me like a regular even for one-night stays. The spa experience with the sauna and cold plunge routine was transformative — and I'm not normally a spa person.
We consider ourselves 'AmanJunkies' and rank several properties among the best hotels on the planet — but NYC is not among them, not even among the better hotels in NYC.
The rooms are extremely beautiful and spacious, and the property is extremely well styled. But the service is very middling, restaurants are nothing special by NYC standards though prices are much higher, and common areas are crowded with non-hotel guests. Staff was universally friendly but many had limited experience. During a major street closure, the hotel provided no notice to guests and was completely unprepared.
We came on a glowing recommendation but our three-night stay was far from seven-star service — the concierge completely failed with our dinner reservations.
I asked the concierge to book dinner each night and got email confirmations from the hotel. When we arrived at our scheduled Thursday dinner, the restaurant had no reservation for us. I called the hotel only to be put on hold and disconnected, then got passed around without reaching the concierge. We were left at 7:30 on a Thursday night with zero reservations and zero help. Our hotel towels also had holes in them.

Credibility-weighted
Detailed trip reports from luxury communities and major editorial reviews carry the most weight. Brief ratings add context, not conviction.
