The Verdict
Aman New York delivers spectacular rooms and an otherworldly spa in prime Midtown, but it's missing the intuitive service that defines the brand elsewhere. The entry-level suites at 725 square feet are Manhattan's largest, wrapped in Kerry Hill's serene Asian-influenced design, while the spa's hammam suites and sauna-cold plunge circuits rank among the city's finest wellness experiences. Yet at $3,000-4,000 per night, the service feels more like a competent five-star hotel than the transformative Aman experience you'll find in Tokyo or the Maldives. It's a members' club masquerading as a hotel — prioritizing exclusivity over the warm anticipation that makes other Amans magical.

What People Say
There's no two ways about it — Aman is for sure the best product in the city with the rooms, service, everything.
I'd rank Aman as number one, then Baccarat second, Greenwich third. They're all different styles but Aman has the superior luxury experience overall.
This mirrors my feelings — it's a beautiful hotel in a great location with amazing spa treatments.
The spa treatments are insane and probably the best changing room experience I've had. The jazz club is amazing and worth a visit even if you're not staying. Food is good but doesn't need to be since you're in one of the best food cities in the world. Service is good but just what you expect from a five-star hotel.
I can't get over the fact that the fireplaces don't give off heat — I booked expecting to be warm and cozy.
I get cold very easily and was so excited for warmth, but there's no freaking heat from the fireplaces. The pool windows being painted over was also a bummer — felt like we might as well be underground since the lack of view makes a huge difference.
Grace at the front desk makes the whole experience feel like a bargain — I would say it's worth every penny and more.
Of course you always expect a lot from Aman, especially in New York. Grace is so kind, patient and professional that the soft service feels second-to-none. Every top hotel has great hardware, but her attention to details and ability to anticipate our needs sets this apart.
By far the best hotel in New York — the suites are amazing and staff treated my dog like a king.
The spa is absolutely breathtaking and staff went above and beyond for my pet. Even when I wasn't present, they wanted to stay with him to make sure he had everything he needed. The level of care extends to every guest, whether human or canine.
We stayed at both Aman and the Waldorf Astoria — the service disparity was the largest difference and truly changed the experience.
Aman had impeccable hard product with that modern, dark, slick Asian vibe I love. But the Waldorf staff remembered our names while Aman's butler service was non-existent and concierge wasn't much assistance. At Waldorf, everyone treated us like family, walking us places and making off-menu drinks without charging.
The hard product is almost second to none for a city hotel — only Rosewood Hong Kong compares.
We got large rooms with awesome design and high technological controls. The minibar with alcohol included is a very nice touch. Service was outstanding for a city hotel — front desk, concierge, spa, and house car driver all remembered me and struck up conversations. The complimentary Maybach house car has almost no wait and generous 20-block radius.
We did the Hammam Spa House with our own suite — it has hammam, outdoor space with cold plunge and hot tub, plus private spa room.
The experience was absolutely exceptional with indoor-outdoor fireplace and private spa room where we had fabulous massages and facials. Having your own complete spa suite with all these amenities makes it feel incredibly exclusive and luxurious.
I'm a sucker for the brand and stay here every few months — the rooms are just stunning, nothing more to say.
I've done all levels of rooms from suites to basic, and while the suites are more spacious, I'm not sure they're worth the extra money. The spa completely changed my mind about spas — we did the whole sauna-cold plunge routine and it was amazing. They even arranged specialty hair, makeup, and IV drip services in my room. The restaurants accommodate my vegetarian diet perfectly, though the room service menu is a bit limited.
We consider ourselves 'AmanJunkies' but NYC is not among the better hotels in the city, let alone the planet.
The rooms are extremely beautiful and spacious, and the property is well-styled. But service is very middling, restaurants are nothing special by NYC standards though much pricier, and common areas are crowded with non-hotel guests. Staff was universally friendly but many had limited experience.
We came on a glowing recommendation but our three-night stay was far from seven-star service.
I asked the concierge to book dinner each night and got email confirmations from the hotel. When we arrived at our scheduled Thursday dinner, the restaurant had no reservation for us. I called the hotel and got put on hold, disconnected, then passed around without reaching the concierge. We were left at 7:30 with zero reservations and zero help.
