I noticed the smell of marijuana lingering more than once, and some of the people in the public spaces were hard to place, no real dress code or etiquette being enforced. Nothing against the staff themselves, they did their jobs fine, but the overall atmosphere felt looser than I want from this brand.

We brought our dog and the staff went all out, the biggest bed he’s ever gotten at a hotel, treats, even balloons with his photo attached when we walked in. Our welcome amenity was a fruit bowl and sparkling water with a handwritten note. CUT by Wolfgang Puck is fine for breakfast but nothing we’d seek out otherwise, this being NYC there’s no shortage of better options nearby. We did have one slow moment at breakfast where it took too long to get seated, but I’d chalk that up to one newer staff member rather than a pattern.
Our Gotham Suite with a terrace was a genuine win, and check-in was as smooth as it gets.

Luggage was whisked away and we had our keys in hand fast, with our bags already in the room by the time we got upstairs. Our regular contact at the hotel didn’t ask about our preferences, but somehow found out I love espresso martinis and had a kit waiting in the room, along with an upgrade, after a rough four-hour flight delay. The location near Tribeca and the World Trade Center gave us a calmer base than Midtown, and the indoor pool was a big highlight of the stay.
I got upgraded to a SoHo room and it was spacious enough that the one-sink bathroom was my only real complaint.

The shower was massive and the bed was exactly what I’ve come to expect from this brand. Service was great overall, they sent someone up right away when I had an issue with the tub drain, though it was odd how often staff walked right past me at doorways without offering to open them. The spa’s Purity Mud Treatment was fantastic and the locker room design was lovely. The pool had great views, though having a lifeguard on duty felt a little awkward when I was the only person there. Breakfast at CUT was excellent and the French toast was genuinely good, even if I’d had a similarly memorable version at another hotel before.
