The verdicts

Rosewood Hong Kong

This is a hotel built to photograph well and mostly it delivers: Grand Harbour View rooms with walk-in closets, double showers, and Victoria Harbour filling every window, plus a Manor Club lounge that guests describe eating three meals a day in rather than leaving for the city. The design is the reason to book, full stop, from the mirrored bathrooms to the art scattered through the corridors like a small gallery. Chaat's Indian food and the Butterfly Patisserie's taro cake come up often enough to plan around.

Service is where the reports scatter, and that's worth pricing in before you pay these rates. Some guests get a butler who tracks down a specific stroller model mid-trip and remembers a tea order by day two; others get no welcome drink while the couple next to them gets one, stained towels, or a call for room service that gets bounced between three phone lines. The pool closing at 6pm surprises people every summer, and the spa facilities read as smaller and older than the rest of the building suggests. None of this is enough to skip the hotel, but at this price a coin-flip on the front desk is a real cost, not a nitpick, and it shows up too often to call it bad luck.

Book it for the room and the harbour view, which nothing else in Tsim Sha Tsui touches. If your priority is easier walking access to the city's best restaurants and a more even service floor, people who've done both keep pointing toward the Mandarin Oriental in Central. But for the building itself, the Manor Club, and waking up to that skyline, this is still the one worth the splurge.

Rosewood Schloss Fuschl

A night here runs well over a thousand euros, and what you're paying for is one of the best lake views in Austria from a castle that started life as a 1461 hunting lodge. The lakeside new wing keeps things quiet and minimal; rooms inside the original castle keep the timber framework and unearthed stucco, and the property holds onto a genuinely serious art collection of Old Masters rather than hotel-lobby filler. The Asaya Spa and the lake itself, which turns an improbable blue-green in summer, do a lot of the work, and for a lot of guests that's more than enough.

The service is the real trade-off, and it's been uneven since the 2024 opening. Housekeeping regularly misses turndown or forgets to restock basics. Breakfast service can be slow when the terrace restaurant is busy but not understaffed by headcount, just badly organized. One guest's confirmed dinner booking got lost entirely and they were seated in the bar instead. Several 2026 stays report the kinks are being worked out and the earlier chaos (duct-taped signage, teething problems right after opening) has mostly settled, but it isn't fully consistent yet, and the See Club lakeside bar keeps closing early or in light rain, which stings given it's a big part of why people book a lake property.

This is a place for a couple or a family wanting a quiet, architecturally serious lakeside base near Salzburg, not a full-service resort where every request lands instantly. Book it for the room, the lake and the art, go in with a car rather than relying on hotel transfers, and treat the service lapses as real but recoverable rather than deal-breaking.
