The Verdict
One&Only Cape Town occupies a unique position as Cape Town's most accessible luxury resort, combining the polish of an international brand with an unbeatable location at the V&A Waterfront. The property delivers on service excellence that One&Only is known for, with staff who remember your name and preferences from day two. While the design feels more resort-like than authentically Cape Townish compared to boutique competitors like Ellerman House, the dramatic scale works — especially the lobby bar's Table Mountain views and the expansive pool deck. The location is the trump card: you can walk safely to shops, restaurants, and attractions while enjoying genuine luxury amenities. It's not the most soulful choice in Cape Town, but it's the safest bet for travelers who want five-star reliability in the heart of the action.

What People Say
I loved the Silo more than One&Only — better vibe and service, though One&Only has the perfect location by the Waterfront.
Having stayed at both properties during my Cape Town visit, I found the Silo had more character and soul, but One&Only's location is unbeatable. Being right at the V&A Waterfront means everything is walkable and safe, which matters in Cape Town. The suites at One&Only are perfectly designed and the service never missed a beat, but it felt more like staying at a luxury resort than experiencing Cape Town itself.
The service at One&Only is great and that Table Mountain view from the lobby bar is worth visiting even if you're not staying there.
I lived in Cape Town for years and honestly think One&Only is overpriced for what it is compared to local options, but the service quality is genuinely excellent. That lobby bar view of Table Mountain is spectacular and the location in the V&A Waterfront is convenient for tourists. The issue is you're paying international luxury prices when there are great local alternatives that give you more authentic Cape Town character.
For 20,000 Rand per night, I expect automatic coffee replenishment — small details matter at this price point.
The property is beautiful and the location is excellent, but when you're paying this level of premium, basic promises should be kept automatically. They welcome you saying they'll replenish coffee and milk daily, then don't follow through. It's a small thing, but at this price point, these details should be seamless without having to ask.
The Table Mountain views from our balcony and lobby were exceptional, plus you can't beat the V&A Waterfront location for exploring on foot.
Our honeymoon stay was perfect — the lobby bar is a great hangout spot for cocktails with those incredible mountain views. Our room was large and comfortable with a nice champagne welcome, and the staff were consistently lovely and helpful. Breakfast at Rooi was delicious and the location made everything so easy, walking to V&A Waterfront for shopping and getting around Cape Town via Uber.
Our Family Island Suite was exceptional and the dedicated WhatsApp service made everything effortless throughout our six-night stay.
We stayed six nights in a Family Island Suite and it truly felt like a home away from home — incredibly spacious and luxurious. The dedicated WhatsApp group for requests was genius, nothing was ever too much trouble and responses were immediate. The property feels safe and peaceful, perfectly located for walking to the V&A Waterfront attractions, and the service was genuinely exceptional throughout.
Outstanding staff made our stay memorable — Elton at Vista Bar and Wade's fitness team went above and beyond with personality and expertise.
We just finished ten nights and the staff truly made it exceptional. Elton at the Vista Bar delivers exemplary service with huge personality and flair, while Wade and his fitness team are exceptionally knowledgeable and took us on fantastic hikes plus tailored yoga classes. This level of attentiveness was consistent throughout — whether breakfast at Rooi, poolside drinks, or dinner at Nobu.
The property exceeded all expectations — stunning views, exceptional spa, and service that went above and beyond at every turn.
From the warm hospitality at arrival to the breathtaking Table Mountain views, every element worked together perfectly. The One&Only Spa is a true sanctuary with pristine facilities and expert therapists who left me feeling completely rejuvenated. My room was spacious and elegantly furnished with every comfort imaginable, while staff consistently went above and beyond with genuine warmth.
We're younger travelers who worry about stuffy luxury hotels, but One&Only was an absolute 10/10 — nothing felt forgotten.
As a forty-something couple, we were curious about the vibe given the luxury price point, but every single employee showed commitment to service and excellence. Not a single detail was forgotten and the team checked in consistently to elevate our stay. After mentioning I loved the spa's carrot cake, the assistant manager hand-delivered an entire one to our room while we were dining — it's those little touches plus incredible attention to big details.
Construction noise starting at 7:30 AM ruined our stay — give it at least a year before visiting.
The hotel is lovely with great location and terrific service, and breakfast was exceptional. We were told construction wouldn't start until 10:00 AM so we thought it would be manageable, but the reality was 7:30 AM right outside our room. Despite the beautiful property and service, I can't recommend staying there until the construction is completely finished.
