The catch is that this is a hotel still finishing its renovation, and it shows. Every staff member gave the warm, attentive welcome I’ve come to expect here. The one letdown was the Matcha Tiramisu at The Communal, which had barely any real tiramisu or matcha flavor and way too much cream. I had an incredible matcha tiramisu in Osaka years ago and this didn’t come close. I’d still try it again if they improve the recipe.
The reception area feels serene and almost library-like, tucked up a flight of stairs from the street.

The staff got wind of my birthday and bumped us up a room category without us asking. Every time we walked through the lobby the door staff had a smile and a hello ready. The room itself was clean and properly spacious, and everything in Central was a short walk away. My only note is breakfast got crowded some mornings, but that didn’t stop us booking again.
I stopped by The Communal and left wanting to come back just for the drinks and the design.

Andie and Richmond took the time to walk me through the space’s history and made me feel completely at home for a short visit. The signature Landmark Glow drink was citrusy and well balanced, and it paired beautifully with an almond and sea salt financier. I loved learning about the recurring patterns and materials in the interior design, it made the whole space feel both luxurious and alive. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the city.
The service made up for the fact that the spa and gym weren’t ready yet.

This place is newly renovated and the customer service is genuinely amazing, even though some facilities like the spa, gym and pool weren’t quite finished. Our doorman, an older gentleman whose name I never got, greeted us warmly every single time we came back, even late at night, and always asked how our day went. The breakfast team, especially Marie and Mona, made our mornings so much better. The team’s excellence made up for what the building itself wasn’t offering yet.
As someone who lives here, I’d tell anyone visiting to pick Central over Tsim Sha Tsui, and this is the pick.

I’ve eaten at most of the other big hotel’s restaurants nearby and found them mediocre for the price, whereas Man Wah here is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the city. You’ve also got a walkway straight into Landmark, which has some of the best fine dining in Hong Kong right there. My honest advice is not to eat at the hotel too much since so much of the good stuff is a short walk away, but this location beats the alternative easily.
I expected a lot from the brand and left one of the most disappointed I’ve been at a luxury hotel.

The room felt dated right after the renovation, and the bathroom had no outlet near the vanity so I couldn’t use my own hairdryer. The hotel’s own hairdryer lost power too because the plug had come loose and I couldn’t fix it myself. Breakfast was the biggest letdown: a pour-over carafe too hot to hold that went cold before I could drink it, a thin à la carte menu, and my order still came out wrong after I confirmed it twice. The worst part was finding out only after I arrived that there’s no spa or gym at all right now, guests get sent to a different hotel, and nobody told me that before I booked a staycation around exactly that.

A doorman with a great sense of humor helped with our luggage and got the wheelchair lift sorted the moment we arrived. At check-in, Maxim upgraded us to a premium room with a proper circle bathtub given my knee, and we found New Year chocolates and snacks waiting for us. Breakfast at the MO Bar ran late for the holiday and was genuinely excellent, with a waiter who gave great suggestions and made the whole meal better.
