Fat Score
The Verdict
Perched dramatically above the Amalfi Coast in Ravello, Caruso delivers the kind of soaring views and old-world Italian grandeur that justify the Belmond premium. The restored 11th-century palace centers around one of Europe's most spectacular infinity pools, where the horizon dissolves into endless Mediterranean blue. Service consistently impresses — staff remember names, anticipate needs, and handle everything from wedding logistics to emergency olive oil stain removal with genuine warmth. The property's elevated position provides blessed refuge from coastal crowds but requires commitment to the shuttle or lengthy drives for exploration. While rooms vary in renovation quality and dining can feel uneven between venues, the core experience remains undeniably magical.

What People Say
This is my favorite hotel in the world, located in what I consider the most beautiful place on earth.
This is a truly unique place operated by a team that deeply cares about the guests' experience. Not giving 5 stars would be nothing short of a sin.
We stayed in May and the level of service was excellent, with superb concierge help and thoughtful amenities like a free boat to Positano.
The room and grounds are beautiful, and the service level was truly excellent. The concierge was superb at arranging everything we needed. They also have a shuttle to Amalfi and a free boat you can book for day trips to Positano and back. My father-in-law stayed at Palazzo Avino simultaneously, and while nice, his room wasn't up to our standards and he didn't get the same level of service or amenities we experienced.
I stayed in 2022 and thought the property and views were incredible, though the pool felt crowded in June with constant wedding events.
The property and views were absolutely incredible — those elevated coastal panoramas are hard to beat anywhere. The pool felt very crowded when we visited in mid-June, but end of May might be better timing. There was a different wedding happening on the property every single day we were there, which became annoying after a while.
We stayed at Caruso in May and felt it was more FAT than Palazzo Avino, with better food and beverage across the board.
I've stayed at both properties in early May and found Caruso to be a bit more luxurious overall, while Avino feels more boutique. The food was good at both, perhaps slightly better at Caruso. Avino has great service and personality, while Caruso is more subdued and quiet. They're basically neighbors, so you get the same incredible views but trade convenience for some of the best coastal panoramas in the region.
Our daughter's wedding at Caruso was absolute perfection — everything was flawlessly planned and the staff went above and beyond.
Our daughter's wedding was an absolute dream. Donatella organized everything with incredible professionalism and attention to detail, making it completely stress-free. Giovanni managed the cocktail hour and reception perfectly, and Sofia showed genuine kindness to my 91-year-old mother, bringing her a shawl and personally walking her to her room. The entire staff exceeded expectations, even the breakfasts were unforgettable.
I celebrated my 40th birthday here with friends from around the world — Donatella made planning effortless from the other side of the globe.
Every single person was blown away by the beauty of the hotel, the views, and the exceptional service. Donatella made planning everything from the other side of the world completely effortless and stress-free. Her attention to detail, communication, and genuine care ensured the entire experience was seamless from start to finish.
The setting is gorgeous with breathtaking views, but what makes Caruso special is the people — everyone made us feel like family.
From the moment we arrived, everyone made us feel like family. Antoinetta at the front desk went above and beyond with questions, bookings, and even ice for an injury. The food was our favorite of our entire Italy trip, even compared to Michelin restaurants we tried. Carmine at the bar greeted us each evening with the warmest smile, and Tommaso the manager's special gimlet is a 10/10.
The staff helped us with absolutely everything and greeted us with such warmth, making our family stay with toddler and baby completely seamless.
One of the best hotels we've ever stayed at. The staff helped with everything from transportation and restaurant reservations to finding babysitters and boat rentals. They prepared special things for our toddler and baby, which meant so much. The property itself is stunning with incredible views, and the food was excellent across all restaurants with consistently fast and friendly service.
Having traveled extensively, this is the finest hotel experience we've ever had — the staff anticipated needs we didn't know we had.
Our stay was nothing short of a dream. The setting perched high above the Amalfi Coast is breathtaking, but what truly sets Caruso apart is its extraordinary service. The team anticipated needs we didn't even know we had and went above and beyond at every turn. They made our daughter's wedding seamless, elegant, and unforgettable with flawless coordination and personal touches that made the day uniquely ours.
We got married at Caruso and loved it so much we came back for another stay within the same summer.
Caruso is our favorite hotel in Italy! The staff, pool, views — everything is perfect and so well considered. Giovanni, Luigi, and Alex made our dining experiences exceptional from breakfast through dinner. Alice in concierge even gifted us olives after I asked where the bar ones were from. After our wedding there, Donatella and Laura made up our room with wedding photos and gave us the most spectacular suite.
We eloped and came for our wedding meal — the views are the best of the Amalfi Coast and the steak Florentine was perhaps the best I've ever had.
After our elopement, we arrived to lovely front of house who congratulated us. Caruso has the best views of the Amalfi Coast out of all the hotels — absolutely stunning. Our servers were so kind and diligent, and the meal was absolutely incredible. However, it was never brought up again after arrival, and we felt disappointed there was no special acknowledgment for our wedding day.
The most spectacular hotel I've ever stayed at — immaculate rooms and beauty never ending with magic around every corner.
We came here on our honeymoon and I wish we never had to leave. The staff is incredible, friendly and attentive — it's like they know what you need before you know you need it. The food and drinks are amazing, and the pool is one of the most breathtaking I've ever seen. Could not have dreamt up a better stay.
This was my first time at a hotel like Caruso — I'm usually quite cheap but left with an experience I'll never forget or regret.
I visited for a friend's wedding and spent three nights. The service is truly second to none — staff using your name and remembering it over the course of the stay. During lunch, I got olive oil on my white shirt and they sprayed and brushed it for me until it was almost spotless. The breakfast with coastline views is amazing, and housekeeping did turndown service every evening.
