Rosewood Calistoga will be the brand's first property in Napa Valley, and that alone makes it worth tracking. It sits on a 118-acre forested estate at the head of the valley, in Calistoga - the wine-country town better known for its geysers and hot springs than for big-name luxury hotels. Rosewood is planning roughly 129 guestrooms, suites and residences, plus 20 private villas and 13 homesites among the trees.

The design lineage is the part we find most interesting. The estate's original vision came from architect Ed Tuttle, the late designer behind some of Aman's most quietly influential properties; New York studio Atelier Marsh is now carrying that work forward. On paper, that's a promising pairing for a property that wants to feel rooted in the land rather than dropped onto it.

We haven't stayed - it's slated to open in January 2027, so nobody has. What we'll be watching: whether the spa, two pools and dining live up to the setting, and whether the residential side crowds out the hotel feel. We'll find out when we visit.
