First look
Aman Maldives is under construction, with an opening reported for around 2026-2027. The numbers are compact for the market: roughly 52 rooms plus 16 residences, designed by Kerry Hill Architects, the practice behind several of the brand's most recognizable buildings. The room count alone sets it apart from the larger resorts in the atolls.
A small Aman in a market full of big-footprint resorts is the interesting part here. What we will be watching for is whether that smaller scale translates into the kind of quiet the brand is known for, and where exactly the resort lands. The date is still a window rather than a fixed point, so we are treating this as slated, not certain.
Not yet scored. We publish a Fat Score only once a hotel is open and real guests have stayed and written about it — this is a first look, not a verdict.
What we'll be watching
We haven't stayed yet — here's what will decide whether it lands when we do.
- Whether 52 villas is actually compact enough. Aman built its Maldives reputation on paper before it had a single key here — and the Maldives market is full of 50-to-80-villa operators who claim intimacy and deliver something closer to a managed crowd. We'll be watching whether the layout across the atoll, with residences on separate private islets, keeps the resort feeling genuinely small or just scattered.
- Whether the spa island earns its footprint. A 2,638-square-metre wellness facility on its own dedicated island is a serious commitment for a 52-key property — that's more spa square footage per room than most Aman resorts carry. The brand's private Spa Houses are a real differentiator when they work; we'll be watching whether this one becomes a reason to stay or just an impressive number on a press release.
- Whether Kerry Hill's design holds its own against the setting. The practice has done its best Aman work in environments with strong architectural context — Kyoto, Bali — and the Vaavu Atoll is mostly reef, sky, and open water. A minimalist building in a landscape with no visual complexity can read as restrained or as plain. We'll be watching whether the architecture gives guests something to return to indoors.
- Whether the date actually lands. Aman announced this without a firm opening date — the official site still says 'coming soon' — and 2027 is the working estimate from third-party trackers rather than a brand commitment. First-in-market builds in remote atolls have a history of running long; we're treating this as slated, not scheduled.

Want us to get you in when it opens?
Nothing to book yet — rates usually load a few months out. We're Sofie and Nicolas; tell us roughly what you're after and we'll come back the moment Aman Maldives is bookable, with rates, what the rooms are actually like, and whether we'd go in the first season.
You'll be dealing with the two of us the whole way through, which is why we only take on a handful of trips at a time — if we're full, we'll say so. We reply by email, usually within one working day. The hotel pays us, not you: your rate is the same as booking direct, and the perks come on top.
Before it opens
When does Aman Maldives open?
Aman has not published a firm opening date — the official site says 'coming soon' and third-party trackers report a 2027 opening. Construction is underway in Vaavu Atoll, but the timeline is a working estimate rather than a confirmed date, so treat it as reported until the brand sets a specific window.
Where is Aman Maldives located?
The resort sits in Vaavu Atoll, on the far eastern edge of the Maldives — one of the more remote and less-trafficked atolls in the archipelago, known primarily for its diving rather than its resort density. The residences are positioned on individual private islets within the atoll.
Is this Aman's first property in the Maldives?
Yes. Aman has operated in the Indian Ocean and across Asia for decades, but this is its first Maldives property. CEO Vlad Doronin has said that Aman guests have been asking for a Maldivian address for years, which positions this as a deliberate strategic entry rather than an opportunistic one.
How many rooms and villas will Aman Maldives have?
The resort is planned at 52 standalone pavilions ranging from one to three bedrooms, each with a private pool. Alongside those sit 16 branded residences, each on its own islet with five to ten bedrooms, a 25-metre pool, private beach, and a personal landing jetty.
What restaurants and facilities will Aman Maldives have?
Press materials confirm multiple restaurant venues, a beach club, and private dining locations, though no individual restaurant names have been announced. The spa is a standout on paper — roughly 2,638 square metres on its own dedicated island, with two private Spa Houses (a signature Aman format with treatment spaces, plunge pools, and either a sauna or hammam). A dive centre and watersports round out the water-focused offering. Kerry Hill Architects, the practice behind Aman Kyoto, designed the resort.
Will Fat Voyage score Aman Maldives?
We publish a Fat Score only once a hotel is open and real guests have stayed and written about it — drawn from luxury travel communities, editorial publications, and verified guests, never paid placements. This is a first look, not a verdict; we'll score it once there's enough independent signal to be fair.
