Aman Karingani is the brand’s planned move into safari, set in the Karingani Game Reserve in Mozambique on the edge of the greater Kruger ecosystem. It is commonly cited for 2027, and it would be Aman’s first sub-Saharan Africa property. That makes it one of the more consequential entries on this list, since it is a new category for the brand rather than another resort.
What we’ll be watching
Whether 30 pavilions is too many for the format. The best safari lodges in this part of Africa run eight to twelve rooms — Singita, Wilderness, the Mombo camps — because density is the enemy of the thing you came for. Thirty pavilions is roughly three times that, and we’ll be watching whether Aman can spread them far enough across 150,000 hectares that it still feels like a private wilderness rather than a luxury village.
Whether Aman can actually run a safari. The brand is one of the most consistent luxury operators on the planet for a hotel room — and genuinely inexperienced in a format where the guides, the trackers, the camp manager, and the daily game rhythm matter more than the furniture. &Beyond and Singita have spent decades building that expertise in the greater Kruger ecosystem. We’ll be watching whether Aman hires from that gene pool or learns the hard way.

Whether the conservation partnership is more than marketing. Aman is developing this alongside Impact Preservation Partners, a U.S.-based conservation firm, on a reserve that is genuinely wild and ecologically significant. That is either meaningful stewardship or a useful story — the two tend to look alike until the lodge is open and people can see how the operation actually runs.

Aman has not announced a confirmed opening date — the official site lists it as ‘Coming Soon’. Trade press commonly cites 2027, but local Mozambican reporting on the $140 million project points to 2028 as the expected completion. Treat any date as provisional; this is a remote, large-scale build in a developing infrastructure corridor.
Where is Aman Karingani located?
It sits within the Karingani Game Reserve in southern Mozambique’s Gaza Province, in the Massingir District. The reserve covers roughly 150,000 hectares and shares an 84-kilometre unfenced border with South Africa’s Kruger National Park, placing it within the greater Kruger-to-coast transboundary ecosystem.
Is this Aman’s first safari property?
Yes. Aman Karingani is the brand’s first sub-Saharan Africa property and its first safari lodge. It would be only the second Aman on the African continent, after Amanjena in Marrakech, Morocco — which is a city hotel, not a safari camp. This is genuinely new territory for the brand.
How many rooms will Aman Karingani have?
The plan calls for 30 standalone guest pavilions, each with one or two bedrooms, a covered deck, and a private pool, arranged around a central lodge. A limited collection of three- to six-bedroom branded residences will also be available. What facilities will Aman Karingani have?
The central lodge is planned to include an outdoor pool overlooking the escarpment, an Aman Spa, and multiple dining venues drawing on regional Mozambican cuisine and coastal ingredients, with fireside dining also referenced in early materials. No architect or designer has been named publicly as of mid-2026.
