Guest after guest, first-timers and Globalists on their fourth or fifth stay alike, lands on the same point: the staff is the reason people come back. The stories pile up unprompted — five wine shops called to track down one specific bottle, a Disneyland transfer arranged for a kid's birthday, duty managers like Lisa and Mouhcine remembered by name months later. The breakfast buffet gets the same treatment, repeatedly called among the best in the city, even by guests otherwise unimpressed with the rest of the stay.

What's harder to defend is what you're paying for the room itself. Cash rates run $1,000-$2,000+ a night, and at that level the dated TVs tucked behind mirrored panels, furnishings more than one guest has called 1980s-vintage, and a small spa (the hot tub has reportedly gone out of service without guests being told) start to feel thin against newer competition. The recently renovated Hôtel du Louvre keeps coming up as the cash-and-points comparison worth checking. Dining is uneven too: the restaurant has held a Michelin star, but service has drawn real complaints about long waits and inattentiveness, and a basic cocktail near €34 doesn't always match what lands on the table.

This is a points hotel first, a cash hotel second. On a Hyatt redemption or a Globalist rate, breakfast alone and that concierge desk make it one of the strongest plays in Paris; on points, the room's shortcomings barely register against the value. At full rack rate, you're paying palace money for a building that's starting to show its age. Book it anyway for the location and the people who run it.

Since the December 2025 reopening, the reports are consistent on one point: the money buys the same big rooms Tokyo has always been short on, a spa floor with Fuji views that guest after guest calls the best in the city, and a breakfast at Girandole (the Japanese set, specifically, over the Western) that people describe as among the finest hotel meals they've had anywhere. The New York Bar and Grill still gets named unprompted, months apart, as one of the city's great rooms to sit in. That part of the case hasn't moved since the renovation.

Several 2026 stays call the refreshed rooms "beige," comfortable but generic enough to pass for a good business hotel at similar money to sharper design statements like Bulgari Tokyo. Service is the harder problem, because it isn't a matter of taste: accounts from this year describe unanswered pre-arrival emails and skipped turndown, while other guests in the same window report being warmly attentive and remembered by name. Both are true; that inconsistency is the real risk you're pricing in, not a one-off.

Shinjuku's shuttle-to-station setup still throws first-timers, and a few guests booked back-to-back trips have said they'd pick Roppongi or Toranomon for a pure relaxation stay. None of that touches what's upstairs. Book it for Girandole, the spa floor, and the New York Bar — that's still the case, service lottery and all.
