Raffles The Palm sells a very specific fantasy: gold leaf, chandeliers, and a lobby that looks like nobody told it this is a 2021 build on an artificial island. Guests either love that or can't get past it, and there's no middle ground in what people write about the design. What nobody disputes is the staff: Alim at reception, Tonyson in F&B, a security manager named Bilal who personally tracked down a guest's lost watch after checkout. That kind of thing happens often enough here that it's clearly how the hotel trains people, not a lucky week.
The trade-offs are real and worth pricing in before you book. Breakfast is the one complaint that shows up constantly, even from guests who loved everything else, with buffet items described as frozen-tasting or simply thin for the rate. One recent five-night guest found the gym underwhelming and the amenities skimped for a Raffles. A longtime regular wrote that loungers used to come with spread-out towels, iced water, and staff cleaning your sunglasses, and that none of that happens anymore because the property is running leaner than it used to, which shows up elsewhere too: a kids' club staffed by one person, a closed restaurant or two during slower periods, a half-hour stand at check-in despite a confirmed VIP booking. None of it is dealbreaker territory, but at this price it shouldn't need explaining away.
Book it for the Palm Jumeirah beach, the pool, and a design that commits fully to its own excess rather than playing it safe. Skip the steam room if you're sensitive to heat, one guest left dizzy after a few minutes. Families and honeymooners who want a private-beach staycation feel will get exactly what they came for; anyone prioritizing breakfast variety or a leaner, more restrained aesthetic might be happier at a Four Seasons or Fairmont a few minutes down the same stretch of sand.
