The honest review of Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

The verdict

You’re paying anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 a night here, or burning around 200,000 Hilton points plus a free-night certificate for the same room, and what arrives is a butler who texts back in two minutes, a plunge pool on your own balcony, and an arrival through a tunnel cut into the rock that people still mention years later. One guest’s butler, Eloy, picked them up for every off-site dinner and kept the chips, guacamole and Coronitas coming like clockwork; that kind of attention is the real case for booking this over almost anything else in Cabo.

The catch is what’s on property to eat. El Farallon’s cliffside setting over crashing waves is genuinely dramatic, but more than one guest has described the kitchen as slow and the food as merely fine for the price, and a full week here can mean running out of good options fast since there’s really only a handful of restaurants. The ocean here isn’t swimmable either, so the plunge pools and resort pools are doing all the work, and the beach rocks mean most people just stay on property or walk the ten minutes into town for dinner. The spa’s three-waterfall pool is reserved for guests actually booking treatments, which catches people off guard, and the gym, despite its size, is stocked with equipment regular lifters find underwhelming.

Book this for the service and the privacy, not for a food-forward trip or a swim-in-the-ocean vacation. Couples and points travelers get the most out of it: it’s quiet, exclusive, and the staff treat you like you’ve been coming for years even on your first stay. Families with very young kids may find Four Seasons Punta Mita or Montage Los Cabos a better fit given their broader kids’ programming, but for a romantic long weekend from the West Coast, this is still the move.

The five scores

Service 17.5/20

Concierges and butlers answer WhatsApp messages within minutes and arrange taxis, dinners and tastings, though poolside drink orders sometimes get lost between staff handoffs.

Rooms & Design 16.5/20

Every room has a private plunge pool and ocean views, with a 2025 room renovation that most returning guests say was an upgrade.

Location 15.5/20

Through the tunnel entrance and a short walk to the marina and downtown, but the coastline is too rough to swim and the property catches a lot of wind.

Dining 14/20

El Farallon’s cliffside setting gets praised far more than its food, and several guests ran out of things to order after a few nights on property.

Wellness 15/20

The spa pool with its three waterfalls is reserved for spa guests, and a gym that looks big is stocked with machines regular gym-goers call mediocre.

Strengths

  • Butlers and concierges who respond within minutes and arrange everything from taxis to private tastings
  • Every room comes with a private plunge pool and ocean views
  • The tunnel entrance and cliffside setting make for a memorable arrival
  • Short walk to the marina and downtown Cabo San Lucas restaurants
  • Daily chips, guacamole and Coronitas delivered to the room is a well-loved touch

Trade-offs

  • Food on property is inconsistent and can feel repetitive over a longer stay
  • No swimmable beach, so the ocean is for looking at, not getting into
  • The gym is large but poorly equipped for its size
  • Poolside drink and food service can get lost between staff handoffs

What people say

Strong endorsement

We were in the recently renovated rooms and they’re genuinely nice now.

Aug 2026

I stayed in January and the new rooms are a real step up. Service was great throughout and it’s an easy walk into town. I wish every resort did chips, guac and Coronas at 4pm the way this one does. We were there right as whale watching season kicked off and it was incredible to watch them from the room.

  • Recently renovated rooms
  • Whale watching visible from room
  • Easy walk to town

Strong endorsement

The tunnel entrance is one of my favorite parts of this whole resort.

Aug 2026

Driving in through that tunnel never gets old for me. I also love that you can walk straight into town from the property. We did a cooking class on property that was genuinely fun, and I don’t think anyone would regret booking a stay here.

“The entrance through the tunnel is a favorite of mine.” in their words
  • Dramatic tunnel arrival
  • Walkable to downtown

My brother-in-law has stayed at aspirational points hotels all over the world and puts this near the top of his list.

Aug 2026

He swears by it and has only ranked one property above it, the Waldorf in the Maldives. Personally I care more about having an actual swimmable beach so I might skip it, but if that’s not a dealbreaker for you, it’s worth booking.

  • Rated among the best points redemptions
  • No swimmable beach

As someone who works out a lot, I think the gym is underequipped for how much space it has.

May 2026

I spend a good amount of time at this resort and otherwise agree with the positive reviews, but the gym is a letdown. It’s a big space, but it’s filled with too many random machines and the ellipticals feel cheap. Just my take as someone who takes gym quality seriously.

  • Gym equipment feels low quality for the space

Our butler Sebastian found us at breakfast and by the pool without us ever having to ask for anything.

Jun 2024

We got lucky with our butler, Sebastian, who was prompt with communication and checked in just the right amount, never overwhelming us. He found us poolside one day and at breakfast another to make sure everything was taken care of. It made the whole stay feel genuinely looked after without being intrusive.

  • Butler anticipated needs without being asked

We watched whales jumping right from our balcony while celebrating my husband’s 40th birthday here.

K.D. Jul 2026

The setting is stunning, with ocean views and a private plunge pool in every room. Staff went out of their way to make the birthday celebration special, and the food was excellent throughout our stay. The whole resort had a peaceful, exclusive feel that made it hard to leave.

  • Whale watching from the balcony
  • Private plunge pool per room
  • Attentive milestone celebration service

Our concierge Fabian was fantastic, but room service consistently took 45 to 60 minutes to arrive.

May 2026

We stayed twice, four nights in November and three in March, both booked with Hilton free night certificates. Service overall was very strong, with the concierge reaching out weeks ahead to help plan the trip. Breakfast at Don Manuel’s was good most mornings but fell apart the one day we arrived near closing time. Dinner at El Farallon was attentive and professional, and the grounds and pool setups were genuinely impressive, though room service always took the better part of an hour even for something simple.

“Fabian is awesome!” in their words
  • Proactive concierge planning ahead of arrival
  • Attentive dinner service at the cliffside restaurant
  • Room service regularly takes 45-60 minutes
  • Inconsistent breakfast service near closing time

After a full week here the food choices got old fast, and the cliffside restaurant sprays you with sea water the whole meal.

Jun 2025

Staying this long, the food options ran out of steam, which I guess isn’t unexpected. El Farallon is decent but you get sprayed with sea water nonstop, which takes away from the meal. My favorite dinner all week was actually off property at a restaurant in nearby Chileno Bay. Next time I’d try to book there instead, though they were sold out of larger suites for our group this trip.

  • Limited food variety over a longer stay
  • Sea spray during cliffside dinner

Our butler Eloy was incredible, coordinating every taxi and anticipating what we needed before we asked.

Jun 2025

From the margarita greeting at the gate to the tour of the room in a golf cart, our butler Eloy set the tone for the whole stay. He kept us stocked with chips, guac and Coronitas daily and arranged or personally handled every taxi to off-site dinners, responding to WhatsApp messages within minutes. The one weak spot was poolside service, where being handed off between different attendants sometimes meant a drink order or the check went unanswered for a while. Everything else, from the tunnel entrance to the lobby arrival, hit the mark for us.

  • Exceptional personal butler service
  • Daily chips, guac and Coronita delivery
  • Poolside service gets confused between staff handoffs

Drags the score

The food and slow kitchen at El Farallon made us decide not to go back despite the incredible view.

Jun 2024

The setting at El Farallon, perched above a rocky shoreline with big crashing waves, is genuinely hard to beat. You pick a protein and two sides off a chalkboard menu, with a few small starters before the main course. On our most recent visit the servers seemed present but inattentive, the kitchen was painfully slow with 45 minutes to an hour between courses, and the food itself was average at best. After that experience we’ve decided the view isn’t enough to bring us back given the cost.

  • Dramatic cliffside dining setting
  • Slow kitchen service
  • Food quality didn’t match the price

We switched hotels mid-trip to come here and it completely changed our vacation for the better.

Claudia Velasco Aug 2026

My partner and I had been unhappy at another Cabo hotel and moving here turned everything around. Staff learned our names, remembered our breakfast order, and the personal concierge was always reachable. The chips and guacamole with Coronitas around 2pm became the highlight of our afternoons, and the pool service matched the room. My only note is the food could use a bit more seasoning, but I’m already thinking about coming back twice a year instead of a Vegas trip.

  • Staff learned names and preferences quickly
  • Daily guacamole and Coronita ritual
  • Quiet, private atmosphere
  • Food could use more seasoning

Every employee greeted us warmly and the little touches, like scheduling our own turndown time, really added up.

Pat L Jul 2026

From arrival to departure the service here felt genuinely exceptional, not just polished. The rooms were spotless and beautifully kept, and we loved being able to pick our own housekeeping and turndown times. The afternoon guacamole, salsa and mini Coronas delivered to the room captured the Cabo vibe perfectly, and our concierge responded to every text almost instantly. We watched other guests behave badly and staff stayed calm and professional through all of it. Yes, it’s expensive, but after staying here we understood exactly what we were paying for.

  • Scheduleable turndown and housekeeping
  • Fast, friendly concierge via text
  • Staff stayed professional under pressure
  • Expensive

We’ve been back multiple times and the recent room updates plus what felt like a new kitchen team made this our best stay yet.

Winter Coming Jun 2026

This remains one of our favorite resorts anywhere, largely because of the staff. The rooms have been remodeled since our last visit and we liked the changes. The food was noticeably better this time, good enough that we ordered room service three times, which we almost never do elsewhere. We did notice slower email response times and a more conservative approach to upgrades compared to past visits, but that didn’t define the trip.

  • Noticeably improved food
  • Updated rooms after renovation
  • Slower email response times
  • More conservative with upgrades now

We came here for a babymoon and found the service impeccable, though dining on property felt very limited.

Jun 2025

There are security guards on the sand from the different resorts that will stop you from getting too close to the water, which felt more restrictive than I expected. The overall vibe leans toward couples rather than families, with two pools, one for kids and one adults-only. Service was impeccable and the resort feels small in a luxurious way, with great rooms and views, but we only found about three dining options on property and ended up going into town or using hotel transport a lot.

  • Impeccable service
  • Rooms and views are excellent
  • Limited on-property dining options
  • Ocean access is tightly restricted

We’ve done both this hotel and Four Seasons Punta Mita with a young child, and the Waldorf’s limited food options and hit-or-miss service were our main gripes.

Jun 2025

Four Seasons Punta Mita wins on facilities and service in our experience, with a playground, more activities, and free kids meals. My issues with this hotel are that it leans heavily on points travelers, has fewer dining options, and service can be inconsistent as a result. That said, the kids club staff here were exceptionally kind and understanding, which goes a long way.

  • Kind, understanding kids club staff
  • Limited food options
  • Service can be inconsistent

About Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal sits on a rocky point above the Pacific in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, reached through a tunnel cut into the cliffside that connects the property to the marina and downtown area. The resort was previously known as the independently owned Pedregal before Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria brand took it over in 2019. It has 112 rooms and suites, each with a private balcony and plunge pool overlooking the rocky coastline, and the rooms underwent a renovation completed around 2025.

On property, the restaurants include the cliffside El Farallon, built into the rocks above the waves, and Don Manuel’s, the resort’s main all-day dining room, along with a tequila and mezcal bar near the lobby. The spa has an adjacent saltwater pool fed by three waterfalls, reserved for guests booking treatments, plus two additional pools for hotel guests and a separate family pool. A fitness center, a kids’ club, and golf cart transport around the sloped grounds round out the amenities. The location puts the Cabo San Lucas marina and downtown restaurants within a short walk.

What fat travellers ask

Is Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal worth it?

At $2,000 to $3,000 a night in cash, most guests who’ve paid full price say the service and setting justify it, though several note the food and gym don’t quite match the room rate. On points, it’s widely considered one of the better redemptions in the Hilton portfolio.

Can you swim at the beach at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal?

No. The property sits above a rocky shoreline with large crashing waves, so swimming happens in the plunge pools and resort pools rather than the ocean.

How does Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal compare to Montage Los Cabos?

Guests who’ve done both often rate Montage slightly ahead on food and overall polish, and Montage has a rare swimmable beach, but a number of travelers still prefer the Waldorf for its service and the privacy of in-room plunge pools.

Is Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal good for families with young kids?

It works better for couples than for families with toddlers. There’s a kids’ club and a family pool, but the dining skews upscale, the grounds involve a lot of elevation change, and several parents say Four Seasons Punta Mita or Montage offer more built for young children.

What’s the best time to visit Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal?

Winter brings whale watching visible right from the room balconies, which guests consistently call a highlight. The property sits on a windier stretch of Cabo, so it’s worth checking conditions if visiting in the earlier months of the year.

How many Michelin Keys does Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal have?

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal holds Two Michelin Keys in the Michelin Guide’s 2026 hotel selection, announced in September 2026. Two Keys is the second of the guide’s three hotel distinctions, given for what it calls an exceptional stay. The Keys come from the guide’s own anonymous inspections and are separate from the Fat Score: Fat Voyage rates it Fat Favorite, 16 out of 20.

How does Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal compare to One&Only Palmilla?

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is rated Fat Favorite at 16/20 on Fat Voyage; One&Only Palmilla is rated Fat Favorite at 16/20. The side-by-side comparison shows where each one leads.

How do I book Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal?

Directly with the hotel. The Reserve button on this page takes you there, and the reservation is made with the hotel, in your name.

What is the smartest way to book Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal?

Directly with the hotel is the simplest: the reservation is then the hotel’s own, so a change of dates or a request for a particular room goes straight to the people who run it.

Can I get a free room upgrade at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal?

Not something anyone can promise: it depends on what’s still unsold the day you arrive. Telling the hotel in advance that you’re celebrating something is worth doing.
