The Verdict

Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru stands as one of the Maldives' most compelling properties, anchored by its prime location in the UNESCO Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve. The marine biodiversity here is extraordinary — this is manta ray and whale shark territory, with some of the most pristine house reefs in the archipelago. The 103 villas sprawl across a genuinely large island with mature vegetation, offering both beach and overwater options that feel spacious rather than cramped. Service operates through the Four Seasons app rather than dedicated butlers, which proves surprisingly effective for most guests but lacks the personal touch expected at this price point. The property's commitment to marine conservation through partnerships with the Manta Trust and on-site research center adds genuine substance beyond the typical luxury resort experience.

What People Say

This hotel epitomizes luxury — anything you can think of, consider it done by this amazing staff, especially their dive center.

Josephine · Jul 2025

The staff is always friendly and happy to help with absolutely anything you can imagine. The food throughout the property is consistently amazing across all their restaurants. What really stands out is their dive center and the excursions they offer — the team there is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the underwater world. The whole experience feels effortless when you have such dedicated people taking care of every detail.

We were surprised by the time zone difference, but everyone working at the hotel took such good care of us from manager Mo to room cleaner Awad.

Alzbet_j · Dec 2024

This was our first time in the Maldives and we couldn't have chosen better. The +1 hour time change caught us off guard but we adapted quickly. Every person we encountered tried their best to make whatever we wanted happen, from the manager to the restaurant staff to housekeeping. This is exactly how a luxury holiday should be — you really just need to relax and let them handle everything. We're already hoping to return soon.

Set in the aquamarine waters of the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, this property takes environmental stewardship seriously.

Robb Report · Apr 2019

The location within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve isn't just a marketing point — it represents a genuine commitment to marine conservation that enhances the guest experience. The pristine aquamarine waters of Baa Atoll provide unparalleled access to protected marine ecosystems, making every snorkel or dive feel like a nature documentary. The resort's environmental programs add substance to what could otherwise be typical luxury hospitality.

The coral swim by the jetty has great fish life, and we had reef and fish right outside our overwater bungalow.

Helen Tayly · Jan 2026

This is exactly what you want from a Maldives resort — marine life accessible right from your accommodation. The house reef delivers with excellent snorkeling opportunities directly from the overwater villas, so you don't need to go anywhere to see incredible fish. The jetty area is particularly good for coral and fish viewing. We're already planning our return.

Landaa is a really nice resort with a cool sandbar you can walk out on, though your 'butler' is just the Four Seasons app.

u/mayisayhitoyourdog · May 2026

Both properties will give you some of the best luxury experiences if this is your first Maldives trip. The Four Seasons app chat works surprisingly well — super responsive and effectively the same as WhatsApp to a butler, you just get different people each time. The sandbar at Landaa is genuinely special, something you can walk out on during low tide. Since you're both in Baa Atoll, you'll have easy access to the same incredible marine life.

We're leaning toward Landaa for the diving in Baa Atoll, even though the seaplane transfer adds complexity and cost for our gear.

u/PaleBiscotti8770 · Aug 2025

The UNESCO Marine Biosphere Reserve location is the real draw here — we're serious divers and the allure of that remote Baa Atoll setting is much stronger than anything closer to Male. The seaplane requirement is annoying, especially with dive gear at $5 per kg plus 28.7% service charge, but we think it's worth it for the marine life. My only concern is the dining — they don't offer meal plans like some competitors, and we've heard mixed things about the restaurant variety.

One of the highlights was their spa with treatments inspired by traditional Maldivian healing techniques — the anti-gravity yoga fascinated me.

Aryanne DiVito · Jun 2023

We stayed in a beach villa that was incredibly private with an infinity pool steps from the turquoise waters. The outdoor sitting area had this charming little tree house setup that became our favorite spot. The spa brings different practitioners to the island for unique experiences like sound baths and hypnotherapy. The marine research center was educational and made me feel good about supporting their conservation efforts. Blu restaurant was perfect for breakfast with views or sunset cocktails.

Credibility-weighted

Detailed trip reports from luxury communities and major editorial reviews carry the most weight. Brief ratings add context, not conviction.

Recent experiences matter more. Renovations, management changes, and staff turnover all surface in fresh signals.

Consensus-driven

When independent sources agree on a strength or weakness, that signal gets amplified. One bad night doesn't tank a score.
