I'm weighing this against the Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands and the room size alone at this resort is winning me over, even if this one gets talked about less.
I don't put much stock in best-hotel rankings, but by most accounts the Ritz ranks higher publicly even though the detailed comparisons suggest this resort's rooms and service are actually better. The Ritz has the more contemporary look, but the room here is noticeably larger. It's a genuinely tough call between the two since everyone has different priorities.
This villa really fit our design taste and was a good amount cheaper than Cheval Blanc Randheli while still being genuinely nice.
It's hard to compare anything directly to Cheval Blanc since that villa was stunning in every aspect, but this room held its own for a lower price. If Cheval Blanc is in budget I'd say it's worth the premium, but this is a very solid choice if it isn't.
At 44 acres with a mile-and-a-half lagoon, this doesn't feel as crowded as some other Maldives resorts of comparable size.

We went first week of November and just missed manta season, which was the one real disappointment of an otherwise great stay.
They give you a manta phone the whole stay, and they call you when mantas are spotted so you can make the boat, but since we were at the tail end of the season it never rang for us. The room and the island itself were both great, and restaurant service was solid throughout. There's no dedicated butler, just the Four Seasons app team, which honestly worked fine for us since it's a whole group responding rather than one person. The house reef was a letdown though, basically nothing compared to other Maldives resorts we've done.
The remote Baa Atoll setting is the whole reason we chose this over resorts closer to Malé, even with the seaplane hassle.

The seaplane transfer is annoying, especially paying by the kilo for dive gear on top of a nearly 29 percent service charge, but it's worth it for what's in the water. My one hesitation is dining: there's no meal plan option like some competitors offer, and we'd heard mixed things about restaurant variety going in.
The dive center here stood out more than almost anything else on the property, staffed by people who were genuinely knowledgeable and passionate.
The staff across the whole resort were friendly and seemed happy to help with anything, and the food was consistently good at every restaurant we tried. What really made the trip though was the dive center: the team there knew their stuff and clearly loved sharing it. Everything felt effortless because the people taking care of us were so dedicated.
First time in the Maldives and the staff, right down to the person cleaning our room, made this feel like the easiest luxury holiday we've had.
The one-hour time change threw us off briefly but we adjusted fast. Everyone we dealt with, from the manager to the breakfast and lunch teams to housekeeping, went out of their way to make things happen for us. It really felt like the kind of trip where you just get to switch off and let the resort handle everything.
