Strengths & trade-offs

Rosewood Bangkok

Strengths

  • Sky lobby check-in and personal touches like handwritten notes and welcome cakes
  • Direct Skytrain access and a short walk to Sukhumvit and Siam malls
  • Breakfast at Lakorn rated among the best in the city, mixing buffet and a la carte
  • Lennon's rooftop speakeasy with a genuinely distinctive vinyl bar atmosphere
  • Butler service on suite bookings praised for handling requests quickly and without fuss

Trade-offs

  • Rooftop pool is small with a partially blocked view and thin staffing at times
  • Base rooms run warm from floor-to-ceiling glass, some guests keep blinds shut all day
  • One-way street out front makes taxi and rideshare pickups genuinely difficult at peak hours
  • Chinese restaurant Nan Bei is inconsistent, ranging from stellar to just good depending who you ask

Rosewood Schloss Fuschl

Strengths

  • Original 1461 castle architecture with exposed stucco and an Old Masters art collection
  • Direct lakeside setting with swimmable water, paddleboards and a full lake-circuit hiking trail
  • Standout tower rooms and suites like the Franz Joseph, with fireplaces and private balconies
  • Bar and casual dining (Vinothek schnitzel, local-gin martinis) consistently praised over the formal restaurant
  • Individual staff members repeatedly step up to fix problems with genuine warmth

Trade-offs

  • Housekeeping and in-room requests have run slow, from missing turndown to 30-45 minute waits for basics
  • Restaurants and the lakeside SeeClub get overwhelmed or close early during busy or unpredictable weather
  • No hotel shuttle to Salzburg, and private transfers or taxis run €65-160 each way
  • The spa and pool area is smaller than comparable Alpine wellness properties nearby

Front-of-house and bar staff get singled out by name for real fixes, but housekeeping misses, slow room service and a mishandled dinner reservation still turn up in recent stays.

Design
17.5

The 30-storey tower, the sky lobby check-in on the 7th floor and Lennon's vinyl bar give it a personality most towers in this price bracket lack.

18.5+1

A 1461 hunting lodge with exposed stucco in the tower, Old Masters on the walls and a redone Sisi suite, rated one of the best rooms guests have stayed in.

Location
17

Direct Skytrain access at Phloen Chit and a walkway into Central Embassy, though the one-way street out front makes Grab pickups a real headache.

19+2

Right on Lake Fuschl with swimmable water and lake-circling hikes, but it's a 25-40 minute paid transfer from Salzburg with no hotel shuttle.

Dining
15

Breakfast at Lakorn (part buffet, part a la carte) gets singled out as excellent, while Nan Bei splits people between stellar and just good.

15.5+0.5

The bar and the Vinothek get real praise (the schnitzel, the local-gin martinis) while breakfast has run 15-30 minutes with cold eggs during busy stretches.

Wellness
13.5

The rooftop pool is small and view-blocked, and more than one guest calls the health club and pool service an afterthought.

15+1.5

The lake itself is the wellness draw (cold plunge, paddleboards) since the actual spa and pool footprint reads as modest next to bigger Alpine wellness hotels.

The Verdicts

Rosewood Bangkok

Rosewood Bangkok is what people mean when they say a five-star hotel in this city doesn't have to cost Aman money to feel special. A week here runs around $350-400 a night depending on the season and how you book it, and what arrives for that is a handwritten welcome note, a cake, and a room with a bathroom view better than most hotels give their bedrooms. The 30-storey tower does check-in on a 7th-floor sky lobby, which sounds like a gimmick until you're up there and realize how much calmer it makes arrival than a ground-floor queue. Breakfast at Lakorn, part buffet and part à la carte, gets called one of the best in the city by people who've done the rounds of Bangkok's five-stars.

The catch is size and heat management. Base Deluxe rooms run around 42 square meters, which is generous for the neighborhood but photographs small, and more than one guest has had to keep the blinds drawn all day because the floor-to-ceiling glass turns the room into a greenhouse. The rooftop pool is compact and mostly view-free thanks to construction on the block next door, and pool-side staffing thins out at odd hours, something guests notice more here precisely because everything else is so dialed in. The Chinese restaurant, Nan Bei, splits opinion: some call the regional dishes stellar, others just good next to the room it's served in.

None of that changes who should book this. If you want a central, walkable location tied straight into the Skytrain, a design-forward building with a genuinely good speakeasy, and service that several guests rate above the pricier Four Seasons down the road, this earns its spot. Skip it only if a big resort-style pool is what you actually came to Bangkok for.

Rosewood Schloss Fuschl

A 1461 hunting lodge on Lake Fuschl, redone as a Rosewood with the original stucco left exposed in the tower and Old Masters on the walls, this is one of the more beautiful buildings in the Alps to wake up in. The lake is the real amenity: swimmable, cold-plunge clear, with free paddleboards and a trail that circles the whole shoreline. Rooms run from around $550 a night at opening rates up toward $1,300+ for a suite in season, and the best of them (the tower rooms, the Franz Joseph suite with its own fireplace and two balconies) are worth the climb in price. The setting and the building are not in question.

Where the money gets harder to defend is the service, and it has been uneven since the 2024 opening. Guests still report a reservation getting waved off at a busy restaurant, a lakeside lounge shutting for the day over twenty minutes of rain, turndown skipped on arrival night, and room requests (a fan, fresh sheets, ice) taking 30-45 minutes to land. Against that: a front-desk manager personally moving a guest's luggage, flowers and champagne to a new room after a dog's surgery made stairs a problem, and a bar manager and concierge team who get thanked by name for cocktail classes and birthday surprises pulled off with real care. The spa and pool are smaller than what nearby Alpine competitors offer, so this isn't the property for someone who wants a serious wellness program over a lake view.

Book it for a lakeside room, the hiking, and a slower few days near Salzburg, not for the flawless five-star choreography the rate implies. Families with older kids who'll paddleboard and hike do well here; anyone chasing the polish of Rosewood's Munich or Vienna hotels should adjust expectations before they check in.

Still torn between Rosewood Bangkok and Rosewood Schloss Fuschl?

We're Sofie and Nicolas, the two of us behind Fat Voyage — and we've stayed in hotels like these ourselves. Tell us what the trip is and we'll tell you which one we'd book, and why. We're not a booking service, but a few times a year we plan one properly for someone; if that's what you're after, say so.

You'll be dealing with the two of us the whole way through, which is why we only take on a handful of trips at a time — if we're full, we'll say so. We reply by email, usually within one working day. The hotel pays us, not you: your rate is the same as booking direct, and the perks come on top.
