Rosewood Bangkok occupies a 30-storey tower in Phloen Chit, connected straight into the BTS Skytrain and Central Embassy mall, and it's what people mean when they say a five-star hotel here doesn't have to be Aman to feel special. Arrival sets the tone: a handwritten welcome note, a cake, and a room with a bathroom view better than most hotels give their bedrooms. Check-in happens on a 7th-floor sky lobby, which sounds like a gimmick until you're up there and realize how much calmer it makes arrival than a ground-floor queue. Breakfast at Lakorn, part buffet and part à la carte, gets called one of the best in the city by people who've done the rounds of Bangkok's five-stars.
The catch is size and heat management. Base Deluxe rooms run around 42 square meters, which is generous for the neighborhood but photographs small, and more than one guest has had to keep the blinds drawn all day because the floor-to-ceiling glass turns the room into a greenhouse. The rooftop pool is compact and mostly view-free thanks to construction on the block next door, and pool-side staffing thins out at odd hours, something guests notice more here precisely because everything else is so dialed in. The Chinese restaurant, Nan Bei, splits opinion: some call the regional dishes stellar, others just good next to the room it's served in.
None of that changes who should book this. If you want a central, walkable location tied straight into the Skytrain, a design-forward building with a genuinely good speakeasy, and service that several guests rate above the pricier Four Seasons down the road, this earns its spot. Skip it only if a big resort-style pool is what you actually came to Bangkok for.
Rosewood Phuket sells itself on the villas, and the villas earn it: private pools, outdoor bathtubs, golf-cart rides through dense jungle down to the beach. A Beach House villa runs to roughly 8,500 square feet with its own kitchen and three terraces, and guest after guest independently lands on the same two things first: the butler system and Ta Khai, the Thai restaurant where a tasting menu built around a fish-catching course keeps coming up as the meal of the trip. The butlers are the reason to book this specific hotel over a nicer-looking villa elsewhere — one arranged a portable fridge for a baby in under an hour, another tracked down a doctor for a skin reaction, another had breakfast ready at dawn so a family could make an off-site tour on time.
It isn't flawless, and the flaws cluster in predictable places. The beach is calm but rocky, not the postcard kind, and the property sits on a slope with no proper walking path, so you're on a buggy whenever you leave your villa. The open-air bathtubs that photograph beautifully collect rainwater and bugs in practice. A handful of recent stays describe a colder arrival than the brand promises, no welcome fruit or wine in the room, and one guest got an uncomfortable grilling over an unused beer bottle at checkout. The Beach House villas in particular show real wear for what they cost: peeling paint, rusted fittings, a pool collecting leaves. None of this is universal, but it shows up often enough that it's worth pricing in rather than hoping you dodge it.
Book it for a honeymoon or a family trip where you want the resort to be the destination, not a base for exploring Phuket, which most people here agree isn't worth leaving the gates for anyway. If you want a tighter, more private alternative with fewer villas and a quieter crowd, Trisara gets mentioned as the local comparison. For the scale, the privacy and Ta Khai, Rosewood is still the one worth booking.
