The doormen and valet get named repeatedly for making the arrival feel unhurried, and housekeeping shows up fast when called, sometimes leaving a small baked treat behind for no reason anyone asked for. The spa, also on the top floor, has proper natural light, two steam rooms at different temperatures, and an in-room hammam shower that nobody else in town bothers with.

Rooms in the historic wing run small for what you're paying in Swiss francs, and a few guests flagged the showerheads as underwhelming for the price. Where it actually slips is the restaurant floor at busy hours: more than one guest describes empty tables held as "reserved" while they waited fifteen minutes for a menu, or got seated after people who arrived later. A returning bar regular also noted the kitchen swapped out a beloved profiterole recipe for a stiffer, worse version, which is a strange thing to mess with when everything else on the menu is being called excellent. The bar itself is a genuine draw on its own, with a bartender who'll remake a cocktail without being asked twice.

None of that touches the case for the room and the location, which is unmatched in Geneva: on the lake, by the bridge to the Old Town, walkable to everything. Book it for a couple of nights in a renovated room and dinner at Izumi, and go in expecting the lobby to occasionally move slower than the price suggests it should.

The case for Landaa Giraavaru starts with the atoll, not the villa. Baa is a UNESCO Marine Biosphere Reserve, and serious divers keep saying the same thing: staying inside it beats commuting to it from anywhere near Malé. Guests who've done both Four Seasons properties, and both Maldives brands, routinely rate Landaa's rooms and service ahead of the Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands — one detailed comparison found the Ritz's villas plain for the money, with pools too shaded to actually use, while Landaa's larger rooms and more natural service kept coming up favorably. The manta-phone system is real: guests staying early October describe getting pulled off a meal mid-course for a sighting. A diver who stayed the first week of November got the phone, the wait, and nothing. Migratory animals don't run on a checkout calendar, and the resort is honest about that itself.

Where the pitch gets shakier is right off your own deck. A recent dive-literate guest called the house reef basically nonexistent next to other Maldives stays, which stings more here than most places given how hard the marine-life story is sold — you're booking boat snorkeling, not step-off-the-jetty coral. Dining draws a real split: multiple guests rave about the restaurants across the property, but an experienced Maldives hand flagged thin variety and no meal-plan option, a genuine gap against competitors who offer one. Staff, by contrast, come up as the standout in nearly every account, named individually often enough to trust it, and the Four Seasons app as a same-day-response team beats a single butler more often than not.

Worth booking if the atoll and the diving are the real trip, not scenery for one; travelers chasing a stronger house reef tend to weigh Anantara Kihavah instead. For the room, the service, and a sandbar you can walk out to at low tide, Landaa earns its place.
