Another checked in near midnight with an urgent laundry request and got it sorted on the spot rather than told to wait until morning.

The rooms are genuinely spacious for central London, with marble bathrooms and the kind of soundproofing that makes a street two minutes from Hyde Park Corner feel silent. The afternoon tea and restaurant pull real praise, down to specific dishes like the coconut waffles. But a few guests had to ask three times for basics like a kettle or a replacement bathroom scale, which is a strange thing to still be chasing at this price point, and there's no real wellness story here: no spa worth describing, nothing beyond a nice-smelling bathroom. If a pool and treatment menu matter to your trip, this isn't that hotel.

It suits a couple or a small family who want a quiet address, big-for-London rooms, and staff who'll actually solve a problem rather than apologize for it. Book it for the room and the people at the desk, not the amenities list.

Guests come back to this hotel specifically for the staff, not the building, though the building is doing plenty of work too. They describe being remembered by name on return visits, having a preferred tea reappear in their room unasked, and a receptionist named Georgi talking a family through a card issue at check-in without making it a thing. That's the case for booking here over almost anywhere else in Knightsbridge: the service consistently goes beyond what's expected.

The rooms are the trade-off, and it's a real one. This is a converted 1889 building, and several recent guests describe connecting doors with almost no sound insulation, an AC vent blowing straight onto the pillow, and at least two reports of windowless rooms sold as junior suites. One guest paid £1,000 a night, got a noisy room, and was offered a £1,200 upcharge to fix it. Ask specifically for a high-floor room away from lifts and adjoining doors, and don't assume "junior suite" means natural light.

Book it for the Hyde Park-facing breakfast, the two-Michelin-starred Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, and a level of staff attentiveness that's rare even among five-star London hotels. Skip it, or at least push hard on room selection, if you're a light sleeper paying peak rates for a "quiet luxury" weekend. For most people chasing that classic Knightsbridge stay, it's still the one to book.
