Fat Score
The Verdict
Aman Nusa Dua sits in an interesting position—these are the remnant villas from the original Amanusa resort, which closed in 2018 and became a Ritz-Carlton. What remains are five ultra-private villa compounds that deliver classic Aman sanctuary with dedicated butlers and private chefs. The service is genuinely exceptional, with staff who anticipate needs and create memorable moments. But this is fundamentally a villa operation masquerading as a resort experience—there's no central dining, no spa facility, minimal communal spaces. You're paying Aman prices for what amounts to a very well-staffed private villa rental. The location in Nusa Dua is convenient but lacks the soul of other Aman properties, and the overall experience feels somewhat hollow compared to purpose-built Aman resorts.

What People Say
We discarded the Amans in our Bali planning because they seem worn down compared to newer options.
We already ruled out the Amans for our anniversary trip as they seem a little worn down, especially with Bali's harsh climate being tough on structures. The owners have been dragging their feet on maintenance from what we've observed. For this price point, I'd prefer to stay somewhere less than five years old to ensure the property is in peak condition.
This place epitomizes luxury and serenity in ways that made our stay absolutely perfect.
I've stayed at many high-end properties, but the private villas here offer something truly special—each one beautifully designed with stunning views and immaculate attention to detail. The service goes above and beyond at every turn, whether we were enjoying a private dinner by our pool or simply soaking in the lush surroundings. The tranquility and exclusivity make it an ideal escape, though I should note this feels more like a luxury villa rental than a traditional resort experience.
We've stayed at other Amans before, so I had certain expectations—this didn't meet them.
The villa was totally disconnected internally, with our two bedrooms having no connection except going outdoors by the pool, which didn't feel safe for our young children. They should have mentioned this critical layout detail when we booked and provided our children's ages. The rooms felt bare with no local personality—could have been any hotel anywhere, definitely didn't feel like an Aman. The villa butler was attentive and the chef was good, but they only showed us the kids' menu the day before we left.
Villa #1 delivered the best accommodation experience I've ever had anywhere.
The service from our team was outstanding—available anytime of day for anything we needed. Our chef could cook absolutely anything and I was genuinely impressed as someone who takes cooking seriously. The villa itself is gigantic and completely peaceful, perfect for couples or groups. We couldn't hear anything from outside, creating true sanctuary. The cooking class they arranged was exceptional and our instructors connected so well with us.
How we score
The 4 signals above are a handpicked editorial selection from 114 signals we gathered across dedicated luxury communities, guest reviews, and editorial publications. Every signal we gathered — not just the ones shown — feeds into the Fat Score and verdict above.
Credibility-weighted
Detailed trip reports from luxury communities and major editorial reviews carry the most weight. Brief ratings add context, not conviction.
Recency-adjusted
Recent experiences matter more. Renovations, management changes, and staff turnover all surface in fresh signals.
Consensus-driven
When independent sources agree on a strength or weakness, that signal gets amplified. One bad night doesn't tank a score.
Refreshed quarterly
