Guests describe vault-like double doors that actually block sound, limestone bathroom floors with underfloor heating, and a main building that kept its historic bones rather than getting the generic five-star treatment. Breakfast gets called out constantly as one of the best in the country, and the walk into town along the river adds something a shuttle bus never could.

The basics are what wobble here, and at this price they shouldn't. One family checked into two rooms and got a single key for four people, waited an hour and three calls for bags, and never managed to get the general manager to appear despite asking repeatedly. Another guest had the spa mix up a booked treatment mid-session, standing around in a bathrobe while it got sorted. The restaurant itself draws a real split: several people loved dinner and the Fritz & Felix bar, but the food has come back too salty to enjoy, and the evening bar can feel short-staffed.
