Peter Marino's rooms run light, marble-heavy and contemporary rather than Haussmann-ornate, and the gifting culture is the thing people actually remember: nightly turndown surprises, a metal bookmark left in a book overnight, Dior bath scents from François Demachy that keep arriving all week rather than just at check-in. Plénitude's three stars and the rooftop bar's river views are the other reasons this costs what it costs, and both hold up across recent reports.

The catch, raised often enough to take seriously, is noise: guests on multiple floors through 2025 and into this year describe furniture being moved on the rooftop past 2am and thin enough insulation that closed windows don't fully solve it. The all-glass bathrooms work fine for couples and awkwardly for friends sharing a suite. And the aesthetic itself is genuinely divisive rather than universally loved, some travelers find it a relief from the stuffier grandeur of the Ritz or George V; others say the lobby reads more South Beach condo than Paris and never fully shakes an international, could-be-anywhere feeling. Service is strong on balance, but a badly handled lost-property case and occasional slow room-service follow-through surface enough in recent reviews to note plainly rather than wave away.

Book it for the most materials-obsessed hotel in the city right now, the Plénitude table, and a version of Paris hospitality built on gifts rather than gilding. A light sleeper on a high floor near the roof should ask for a lower one first.

Jean-Michel Gathy's villas are still the case for booking: island and water villas that run larger than anything else in the Maldives, private infinity pools that blur into the lagoon, and a layout that keeps you from ever seeing another guest's boat pass your view. One traveller who'd just come from the Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands called the privacy absolute, and the return-guest number backs that up: one report put it above half of all arrivals, which for a resort this expensive is not a small claim. The butler service is where the money shows up day to day, arranging dolphin sightings and remembering preferences nobody stated twice.

The catch is dining, and it's been wobbly since the GM left last August. Several 2025 reports describe underwhelming execution at Diptyque, bad sushi rice included, and one October stay was bad enough (hair in the food twice, complaints waved off) that it clearly isn't settled yet. A February 2026 review calls the food and service Michelin-level and says the resort keeps pulling the same guests back. This is a kitchen mid-transition, not a broken one, but it means the food doesn't yet match what the villas cost. Personal touches are also unevenly handed out: some guests get the brand's signature small surprises, others get standard treatment all week.

There's no house reef, so snorkeling means a boat rather than a walk-in, and the resort's own seaplane runs roughly $1,500 per person against $600 on the shared service. Keep dinner expectations in check until leadership settles. Then book it for the villas, the privacy, and the spa island.
