Peter Marino's rooms run light, marble-heavy and contemporary rather than Haussmann-ornate, and the gifting culture is the thing people actually remember: nightly turndown surprises, a metal bookmark left in a book overnight, Dior bath scents from François Demachy that keep arriving all week rather than just at check-in. Plénitude's three stars and the rooftop bar's river views are the other reasons this costs what it costs, and both hold up across recent reports.
The catch, raised often enough to take seriously, is noise: guests on multiple floors through 2025 and into this year describe furniture being moved on the rooftop past 2am and thin enough insulation that closed windows don't fully solve it. The all-glass bathrooms work fine for couples and awkwardly for friends sharing a suite. And the aesthetic itself is genuinely divisive rather than universally loved, some travelers find it a relief from the stuffier grandeur of the Ritz or George V; others say the lobby reads more South Beach condo than Paris and never fully shakes an international, could-be-anywhere feeling. Bulgari Hotel Paris
This is the hotel people in the 8th keep comparing everything else to, including the Four Seasons George V across the street. What arrives for the money is a genuinely large room by Paris standards, a bathroom built around the Serpenti glass piece that keeps getting singled out, and a front desk that solves problems fast: one couple got an early check-in upgrade after arriving straight off a train, another had a full breakfast arranged at 5am during Ramadan with dates ready for the fast. The concierge desk, led by Bastien, and the front-of-house team turn up by name for actually fixing things, not just being pleasant about them.
It isn't flawless. The gym is small for a hotel at this level, and more than one guest noticed the mismatch. A couple of stays describe bellmen and valet handling out front as rude or disorganized during busy arrivals, and one guest was bumped from a promised bar table when a penthouse guest wanted it, which stung more because the staff had already walked them to the seat. The spa massage disappointed at least one repeat guest. None of this is universal: most reports describe the opposite, staff remembering a favorite cocktail or a dog's dinner without being asked twice, but it's worth pricing in before you book the suite over the base room, since a couple of guests found the smaller suites tight for what they cost.
