What Fat Voyage is

Three layers of signal. One honest take.

Not a listicle, and not one writer’s opinion — but a continuously-running system that turns thousands of real signals into one trustworthy verdict per hotel.

01
A continuous signal engine. A smartly engineered algorithm scans the true luxury-travel communities across platforms, spots every hotel being discussed, and reads the sentiment behind the comments — always running. Then we distill it.
02
Elite editorial, cross-checked. We weigh that against the high-end publications that still do real, on-the-ground reviewing — the blend that makes Fat Voyage unique.
03
A Founders’ Verdict layer. For handpicked hotels, an extra layer of authenticity: a first-hand account from a stay we were invited to, or sought out ourselves.
fat. voyage01 — The publication

Why we exist

The people paying the bill don’t trust the usual signals.

Affluent travelers have learned to discount what everyone else relies on. Instead they turn to each other — reading, comparing, and putting real effort into sharing first-hand experiences in communities of their own. The higher the spend, the less sponsored influence moves the needle.

What they tune out
  • Mass review sites — Google and Booking skew mainstream, and some of these hotels aren’t even listed there.
  • Influencers — high-net-worth travelers are among the least swayed by sponsored promotion.
  • Marketing copy — they see straight through it.
What they trust
  • Their peers — candid, first-hand notes traded among equals in active luxury-travel communities, away from the marketing.
  • Elite editorial — the few publications that still do serious, on-the-ground reviewing.
  • Authenticity — above all, the people behind the verdict: who did the work, and whether it comes from someone who truly knows these places.
The most active luxury-travel communities draw hundreds of thousands of affluent travelers — with 5,000+ actively sharing first-hand experiences every week. As peers, not followers.

These communities are our primary source of true signal — weighed against elite editorial, and distilled into one honest verdict. Built for how this audience actually decides.

fat. voyage02 — Why we exist

The Fat Score

An AI engine — not a star average.

Most sites average star ratings. We engineered our own AI scoring algorithm — it reads how people actually describe a stay, in their own words, weighing every voice for credibility, depth, and recency. The algorithm reads at scale; the Fat Voyage team curates every result by hand.

01
Ingest
Thousands of signals — luxury-community trip reports, Google reviews, editorial, and verified guests — pulled in continuously.
02
Analyze
Our AI reads each one in natural language — weighing depth, credibility, and recency, not just counting stars.
03
Score & curate
A single 0–10 Fat Score — then the Fat Voyage team curates before anything is published. Re-scored quarterly.
fat. voyage03 — The Fat Score

The tiers

What the score says at a glance.

The label leads; the number sits alongside. Three tiers tell a reader, in one glance, how a hotel stands — each earned on the same 0–10 scale, built from thousands of weighed signals.

Fat Legend
9.0+
The rare best. Exceptional across every dimension — the handful of places that define what this kind of hospitality can be.
Fat Favorite
8.5–8.9
A clear standout. The kind of stay we’d happily return to, and recommend without a caveat.
Fat Approved
8.0–8.4
Clears a high bar. Genuinely worth your money and your week — recommended with eyes open.

The 8.0 floor

Below 8.0, a hotel isn’t featured — we’d rather show fewer, better places. The engine keeps scoring them all the same, so the fuller picture stays discoverable through Smart Search.

The product

Every hotel gets a page like this.

A page on Fat Voyage is editorial, not a listing. The verdict leads; the score is earned from real signals; and the voices behind it are shown in full — attributed and dated.

  • The verdict & Fat Score, with tier badge
  • What people say — curated, paraphrased review cards
  • A transparency line: how many signals, from how many sources, last refreshed
  • One Reserve button — pointing to your direct channel
  • Optional — a Founders’ Verdict: a first-hand account, placed organically or by invitation; the strongest trust signal a page can carry

The Audience
Who reads us  ·  How they discover us

Audience

The people who pay the bill.

Not deal-hunters or window-shoppers. Our readers are the people who actually book and pay for these stays — and they behave nothing like the mass market.

  • They book direct — not through OTAs or deal sites, so the guest (and the margin) is yours
  • They stay longer and spend meaningfully on property — dining, spa, experiences
  • They research hard before committing to a multi-night stay at these rates
  • They come from the most active luxury-travel communities — where a considered second opinion beats a polished listicle
fat. voyage07 — Readers

Discovery

Built for how travelers search now.

The first stop for “where should I stay” is moving from the search bar to the answer engine. We’ve gone all-in on both sides of it — cited in the answers travelers trust, and answering them ourselves.

01 · Found in AI search

Ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Google’s AI Overviews where to stay, and Fat Voyage increasingly comes back cited as a source — word-of-mouth, at the scale of the whole internet.

Collaboration

Three ways we’d like to work with you.

01
Get the imagery
and facts right
Send your press library and a current fact sheet. Flag anything dated — a photo, an amenity, a room count.
You get: a 7-day factual-review window, and imagery credited on your page.
02
Send readers to
your direct channel
Share your direct booking URL — Aman Insider, Preferred, Virtuoso, Leading Hotels, or in-house. Affiliate-tracked, if you’d like.
You get: every Reserve button sends guests to your direct channel, never an OTA — the booking and the relationship stay yours. We’re glad to work out the commercial side together, whatever makes sense for you.
03
Host us for a
Founders’ Verdict
A first-person account from a real stay, published alongside the independent score. Earned, never bought.
You get: the “Founders’ Verdict” emblem on your listing. Earned by organic visit, press rate, or invitation — and it never moves the score.
fat. voyage09 — Working together

The Founders’ Verdict

Our highest form of coverage —
earned in person.

When we visit, we publish a first-person account of the stay — in our own words, alongside the independent Fat Score. It’s the closest a reader gets to standing in your lobby before they book.

  • Published alongside the score, never replacing it
  • The “Founders’ Verdict” emblem on your card, across the whole site
  • You see the draft for factual review before it runs — corrections yes, editorial veto no
  • The score stays independent — a hosted stay can’t move it, and we disclose it
  • One of three ways in — an organic visit, a press rate, or an invitation; at these prices, often what makes a first-hand account possible at all

fat. voyage10 — The Verdict

The line we don’t cross

What we won’t do.

No pay-to-feature

Inclusion and coverage are never for sale. Scoring is independent of any commercial arrangement.

No editorial veto

Factual corrections, yes. Rewriting opinions or assessments, no.

No scores for stays

Hospitality earns a Founders’ Verdict, never a higher Fat Score. The two layers stay separate.

No removing negatives

Honest synthesis includes critical voices — attributed and dated. We won’t delete them on request.

fat. voyage11 — Our promises

The engine

The engine proposes. People decide.

Fat Voyage runs on a scoring platform we built ourselves. In the background it reads thousands of signals and proposes what to add and what to re-score — but nothing publishes on a machine’s say-so. The team makes every call: editorial judgment, at machine scale.

The engine proposes
Signals,
continuously
Always on, it reads thousands of community and editorial signals — and flags new hotels to add and scores due a refresh.

The Fat Voyage team reviews every proposal. Nothing goes live without editorial judgment behind it.

Who you’ll be working with

Nicolas

Fat Voyage is built and run by Nicolas — a tech founder with a deep passion for travel. That combination is the whole point: AI-native engineering to read thousands of signals at scale, and a genuine love of these places to know which are worth your time. I know them first-hand, and I’m endlessly curious about how a great stay actually comes to life. Every email gets a real reply, from me.

Let’s talk

Come and see for yourself.

We’d be glad to get the details right together — imagery, a direct booking link, a fact correction, or an invitation to visit. We read every email personally.

For the record

Fat Voyage, in brief.

Fat Voyage is an independent editorial publication covering the world’s most distinctive hotels, written for the people who actually pay for these stays. Every hotel earns a Fat Score — a single 0–10 rating synthesized from tens of thousands of traveler and editorial signals, refreshed quarterly and independent of any commercial arrangement. Select hotels also receive a Founders’ Verdict: a first-hand account from a real stay.
